Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump has claimed Iran is negotiating with the U.S. to end the current war but is “afraid” to admit it.

The 79-year-old president made the remark at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual fundraising dinner on Wednesday evening.

“They are negotiating, by the way,” Trump claimed of Iran. “They want to make a deal so badly but they are afraid to say it. Because they figure they will be killed by their own people. They are also afraid they will be killed by us.”

His comments directly contradict Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, who said the country was not in negotiations with the U.S. over a resolution to the war and had “no intention” to have any such conversations.

Speaking on Iran’s state TV news channel, he said the U.S. had been “sending various messages through different intermediaries” for several days.

Cry wolf harder there moron.

So far everyone has missed the best part:

“They don’t like the word war because you are supposed to get approval. So I will use the word ‘military operation.’ Which is really what it is. It’s called a military decimation."

TBD if this "military operation" will be "special" too.

it seems the US want a deal so badly but they are afraid to admit it.

Yeah because he can't ever admit he was stupid and had no plan.

They may have found enough construction paper and crayons to explain to him how bad things are going and exactly how bad they may have fucked up in the short and long-term.

At the moment he seems considerably more nervous about this than virtually every other thing that he is managed to screw.

Probably not. He gets 2 minute videos of shit blowing up. I wish I was making that up, but that's what he's getting: a highlight reel of explosions.

Edit to add: pick a source https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?q=trump+iran+video+briefings&noai=1&ia=web

I hope he saw that animated "explanation" video Iran did (not the Lego one, the shorter animated one) because, while it's probably too complicated for him to understand, that's the closest "briefing" I've ever seen to his level of stupidity.

[–] thanksforallthefish@literature.cafe 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I've not seen those, I don't suppose you have a link handy you could share ?

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 3 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Here's the animated one; here's the Lego one. And the first one on this page is (afaik) their most recent.

Damn. That's well done.

Thanks very much

always projection.

Most dictatorships actually convince a plurality of the population with their propaganda. Epic fail, TACO. Sad.

[–] HarneyToker@lemmy.world 18 points 23 hours ago (4 children)

This guy wrote a book called “The Art of the Deal”. That’s hilarious.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 20 points 20 hours ago

First, Trump made one of the worst deals ever with 'Art Of The Deal' The ghostwriter got cover credit and half the royalties, something unheard of in publishing.

Second, after having had access to Trump, the writer left and stayed away from him. He's spent decades tellign the world what a POS Trump is.

[–] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 24 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

He didn't write it, he paid someone to write it for him. Like all of his college and high school essays.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 10 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

And he made a terrible deal with his ghost writer. Dude got Trump to agree to credit him on the cover and give him half the royalties.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

He can’t even write his name. He didn’t write a book.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 1 points 18 hours ago

The tard of the deal

[–] Mohamed@lemmy.ca 8 points 20 hours ago

That, isnt even logical enough to not make sense.

Trump honestly wished he had the excuse of 9/11 to go forward in invading any country he wants. My theory on this asshole is, he's warped himself back into the 2000s way of things in terms of corrupt politics. He saw how Bush handled everything in the 8 years he's had office and was quietly inspired, telling himself "I'll do better than him one day" and now he's had his chance.

The problem with his thinking is that, Bush had his made-up excuses and a 'War on Terror' platform to jump off from to do this extensive war shit. Bush's administration was corrupt but correlated with eachother, far better than Trump and his administration is.

I'd like to believe all of this is part of Trump's dementia. He wants to Make America Great Again, to a point in time of the past of which he can't fully remember or even execute properly.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 4 points 16 hours ago

It's not about 9/11. It's not that he needs a good excuse (clearly he doesn't). Excuse or no, he can't just steamroll Iran. He's realizing he fucked up and isn't prepared to see it through, so he's just bullshitting and hoping things will work out somehow.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 20 hours ago

Bush's administration was fucking MENSA compared to this shit show.

[–] leoj@piefed.social 6 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Just blindly groping for that lost age that doesn't actually exist.

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

I think Trump has a lot of experience blindly groping for lost ages that no longer exist.

See the Epstein files for context.

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

A four year old can differentiate between negotiations involving a mediator and without one. This is a circular story without a story.

Fuck this headline. I understand click bait, but this is abuse of the literate.

“They are negotiating, by the way,” Trump claimed of Iran. “They want to make a deal so badly but they are afraid to say it. Because they figure they will be killed by their own people. They are also afraid they will be killed by us.”

"I am negotiating, by the way," Trump attempted to hide. "I want to make a deal so badly but I am afraid to say it. Because I fear I'll be killed (incarcerated?) by my own people. I am also afraid I will be killed by my shillionaire Epstein-class donors."
