Anyone else tripped up by the grammatical awkwardness of "house"?

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah yes, the reliable 40%

That same 40% that would keep supporting Trump even if he kicked down their own doors and murdered and then raped their children right in front of them. That same 40% that shows up in EVERY poll...

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 6 points 23 hours ago

In Russia they just make it 80% in every poll

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 41 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Never actually said whether things are more expensive now...only that most people think they are.

Good job, folks! Another stellar piece of journalism. This is why Americans are perpetually uninformed.

Facts in the US?

Is that a thing?

[–] III@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

We used to have facts machines in offices - but that was a while back.

[–] 1dalm@lemmy.today 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Well, the short article was about a public perception poll...

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Still, the context of how inflation works and if they are accurate is helpful. Saying all are indeed higher, but which are much higher is important. Highlighting where certain groups are misidentifying trends is also important. There is no point in having short articles about people’s opinions if those opinions are not put in context. That is the posters point. This is just clickbait not news.

It's from a Blue MAGA outlet, of course there is a point.
It's the same orange man bad slop as this community.

Shhhh. You're talking about critical thought and Americans. The only thing their vast spectrum is still United in is downvoting anything they perceive to be an attack on their beliefs. In this case, some will think you're pro-Biden and some will think you're pro-Trump, the rest won't know what to think and that makes them uncomfortable. All the while, none of that was your actual point.

Shuutup Ruzzian bot!
The campist indoctrinated simplistic pavlovian response you get from these simpletons.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

It sure would hit harder if the writer weren't too cowardly to conclude with "and therefore X% of Americans are objectively wrong."

I mean, there has been positive inflation in the US for decades, prices generally only go up, the issue is that they've been going up faster and faster.

While wages remain almost flat

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 2 points 23 hours ago

Just work harder

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

New study reveals 23-35 percent of Americans would be terrible contestants on The Price Is Right.

[–] III@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Drew: Okay, all you have to do is choose which product is more valuable. This 2026 Toyota Corola Hybrid, or this 20 oz bottle of Ivermectin

Contestant: *hurriedly scans the crowd almost unanimously yelling "the car" for someone with a MAGA hat*

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world -5 points 16 hours ago

As if everything doesn't get more expensive over time in any country and under any government.
This is just silly

[–] youcantreadthis@quokk.au 1 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Is this an actual poll or an 'ask Claude' poll not that it wasn't definitely cheaper its just it was still inexcusably high and fucking unlivable and 40%is a weirdly low number

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago

I mean it was. And it was lower under Trump before that. And it was lower under Bush before that.

2008 was a rupture that got patched over but never came close to healing in the US.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world -3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Was it though? I'm not giving trump a pass here, but I feel like he's the one who made everything terrible in 2020. The inflation started in 2018, but really spiked in 2020. Then it more or less stayed the same until very very recently. Gas has skyrocketed. I feel like inflation is about to go insane again in the near future, but I think my grocery bills are roughly the same now as opposed to 2021.

[–] III@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

but I feel

That's where you messed up.

In 5 years, beef has doubled in price.
