I actually loved this. It had some sequels but its the kind of thing that they are never going to do justice.

Soon, in a five season Netflix show:

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago

Love it.

Love the ending.

That movie was weird, bad, and yet good at the same time. I really enjoyed it. I can't remember where I even came across it. I might even have it on DVD.

[–] teft@piefed.social 5 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

You gotta watch all three if you watch one.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Nah, whoever made the aecond movie did not understand the first movie

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 9 hours ago

Yeah, it's better as a stand-alone IMO

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Hahaha. I can assure you... you do not need to watch the second movie. The third which is a prequel, was pretty good IMO. But it's not necessary to watch.

Cube 2: Hypercube was .. mmm... Chef's kiss

[–] Shortstack@reddthat.com 5 points 16 hours ago

I enjoyed that movie in a mystery science theater 3000 kind of way. It was b movie bad but good.

I swear I read this story in the mid-1970's as a kids novel

[–] Cybersec@piefed.social 3 points 15 hours ago

Hey yeah I read that too a long time ago, was it about kids though and unending stairs going in every direction, but in the end they’re in an experiment? That book always stuck with me and impacted me a lot.

I placed this in the same bucket as films like Fortress.

They are not good films. But they are enjoyable films.

A certain amount of suspension of your own intellect makes them go down real easy.

[–] bacon_pdp@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

What is the novel’s name (ISBN too if hard to find)

[–] eyes@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

I couldn't find any refences to a book anywhere - there was a short comic.

[–] adam_y@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

I think they might be referring to 'House of Stairs' the 1974 book by William Sleator.

It's not technically what the film was based on but they do share a few similarities.

People wake up in a maze like puzzle without knowing how they got in there. But that's sort of as far as it goes.

low budget, poorly acted, really interesting premise if you like sci-fi, post apocalyptic scenarios and or "weird" stuff

PS: I did like it

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 16 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I loved this movie. It was really really bad though 🤣

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

HA! It's rough around the edges, yeah, but it is by far, not the worst horror/thriller movie I've watched or attempted to watch. And to be fair, it was Vincenzo Natali's first full length movie, that was produced on "$350,000 in cash with another $350,000 [as] donated services." https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-vancouver-sun/106334691/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cube_(1997_film)#Filming

Also because of money constrains, they only could allow for one day of table read before starting principal filming.|

(top right)

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, no, sorry. I didn't mean it was the worst film ever. It's bad good. Juuuust the right amount of cheese. And despite the acting being poor, it wasn't the worst and they WERE clearly trying.

You seem to be glossing over the first bit of my comment where I said I loved it.

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Perhaps. But sarcasm online is hard to determine. =)

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 2 points 16 hours ago

Totally fair.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

There are dozens of us! hahahaha

I have not brought myself to see the 2 sequels yet. Mostly because I forget and my window of to watch "probably bad but I kind of like it" movies is narrow

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 5 points 18 hours ago

Oh fuck! I totally forgot about the sequels! I vaguely remember watching the second one. The only thing that stuck in my memory is that it clearly had a much bigger budget.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 5 points 18 hours ago

It's worth it. They're similar enough and distinct enough to be enjoyed.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 3 points 18 hours ago

all of them fit in that window, believe me.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 9 hours ago

People die horrifically in cube.

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 13 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

"A group of strangers find themselves trapped in a maze-like prison. It soon becomes clear that each of them possesses the peculiar skills necessary to escape, if they don’t wind up dead first."

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

I was seven when this came out, and it is possibly the only horror movie I've ever seen...
