My wife does this in bed, doom scrolls with the brightness up so high it literally wakes me up, and then wonders why she has a hard time sleeping.

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 11 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

My girlfriend does the same but she has zero trouble sleeping. Meanwhile I'm struggling whatever I do 😭

✊🏾 the struggle is real fam

Gotta crank that brightness at night. It's the blue light that's disruptive so you need to drown it out.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 2 points 13 hours ago

Hasn't that been debunked?

Yes while also having everything turned on, 50 apps ~~oprn~~ open and all of them tracking location and using all the sensors.

This is how I get almost 3 days out of an iPhone 13 mini:

  1. data safer on; certain apps blocked to use mobile internet as well.
  2. battery always in low power mode; this also prevent apps from doing stuff in the background
  3. wifi and LTE/5G/4G only on when I actively use my phone or cannot miss a reply I am waiting for
  4. lowest brightness setting as the base in a dark room and adaptive brightness from there
  5. no automatic app updates to safe on data plan and battery. updates only with wifi at home
  6. download favourite music instead of streaming (apple music can do that). hear music offline. do nothing else while listening to it.

50 apps oprn

I onow this is just a typo but I initially read it as your mom having "50 apps o' porn".

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

The good ol' apps o'porn

Speaker phone for every call too

[–] NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I see a lot of younger people doing this in my area. I never understand it. They’ll be driving newer cars that surly have Bluetooth but they still hold their phone up to their mouth while they drive with it on speakerphone.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 2 points 13 hours ago

Some people are unable to pair their phones to the car

Here it's not an older people thing but a foreigner thing for some reason. I wonder if it is culturally more acceptable in some places (and some part is explained by video calls)

[–] AbsolutelyClawless@piefed.social 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Got an Italian neighbor that does that (along other disruptive things). Goes out on the balcony with either a show/movie or phone call blasting on speakers while smoking the most disgusting/cheapest cigarettes known to man. How are you 20 something and not know what earphones are??

Mind you, I'm a foreigner here, too, but I wasn't raised by wolves.

Hey hey hey, we are civilized, don't drag us into this!

I’ve heard that Muslims prefer video calls to make sure they aren’t talking to the Shaitan.

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 5 points 15 hours ago

I do this πŸ˜… I have a hard time with phone calls and for some reason it makes it much easier for me to process what's being said, or maybe its just more comfortable, I dunno

My preference is headphones, but if I don't have headphones I'm putting it on speaker unless I'm in a shared space with an expectation that I not just have my call broadcasting to everyone in earshot (not gonna be that guy at the grocery store or whatever)

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Don't tell my wife how to do that!

[–] TheFrirish@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 0 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Or you just have a pixel :/

Turn your brightness down and switch on airplane mode when on WiFi saves a lot of battery honestly. Also deactivate 5G it's only use is to kill batteries. No one needs 5G on their phone 4G is more than enough.

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 2 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

There's a way to disable 5G? On Android? I'd love to disable it as it's rubbish!

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 1 points 6 hours ago

I can set mine to only be 5g when the screen is on

At least on Samsung there's a per-SIM setting to prefer 4G/LTE over 5G. I'm sure stock Android has that option, too.
