I just hope that when China finishes making the Prime Intellect that they hardcode marxist values into it.

Okay but these are photonic chips which are different than what we typically would think of as a computer chip, right? So it's cool but it's not gonna shake the industry

it's more significant in terms of development and viable application for nanoimprint lithography, which is a proposed alternative to DUV lithography that is controlled by ASML and US by proxy. photonic chips are more well suited for this process so those have been the focus so far. still according to this article, the announcement is light on information that is actually relevant to successful commercialization besides achieving mass production. we've been burned by these kinds of press releases before so i won't hold my breath, and it's basically irrelevant in the short term.

Yeah I think the main takeaway is that China is pushing hard to find a way to make domestic chips that are on par with top of the line western ones. They'll find a way to do it eventually even if its not this. They've been having a lot of interesting breakthroughs and eventually one or multiple will give them the path forward. But if people expect them to magically solve a super complex problem overnight then they'll be disappointed.
