VICTORIAN LIBERAL SENATOR Sarah Henderson made a goose of herself and her office by "grilling" the SBS about Eurovision during Senate Estimates on 28 May. Her big concern was why Australia didn’t give any points to Israel during the Eurovision 2026 Grand Final. She demanded to know what the selection process for SBS’s seven-person jury was.

No one in politics is serious anymore. Those that are serious are a minority and most of them are serious about fascism.

I'm not Australian, btw. Apologies if I'm speaking out of turn.

[–] Instigate@aussie.zone 2 points 7 hours ago

I mean, I kind of agree with you but the Liberals are definitely a minority party now (let alone the fact that without the Nationals, they’ve always been a minority party). They’ve been ringing their death knell for a while now. I get what you’re saying and its intent but be careful you don’t accidentally call the Libs serious about fascism.

It’s really just the Greens and Independents that are the real politicians these days; i.e. those that genuinely represent the views of their constituents.

Why did we roll out the red carpet for Israel’s president the other month

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

I'm assuming the 20% that likes them enjoys a plethora of power and influence.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 8 points 18 hours ago

My favourite Jewish people are the ones who say "Fuck Israel" with the rest of us.

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 39 points 1 day ago (3 children)

'Asshole' is an underwhelming critique of genocide.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

So is 80%.
It would mean 20% of Aussies are stupid and/or scumbags

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

That's at least 30% better than America so not too bad I'd say

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

that awful country isn't really a benchmark

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean it should be arseholes but yeah, fuck pedanticness

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

You anti-pedanticite!

[–] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Eh, it was editorial already. Fucker's ,war criminals, won't water down cunt, that's a different thing.

20% are afraid of being labelled antisemites by the cunts who live in the eastern suburbs of Sydney and whisper into the ears of the politicians

[–] SarahFromOz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

20% drink the cordial.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)
[–] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 2 points 17 hours ago

Damn. Worth the read.

[–] arbilp3@aussie.zone 3 points 18 hours ago

20% are ill-informed or don't want to be. 1 in 5 people thinking it's excusable to mass murder your way to 'security' is a stain on our society. The society of the 'fair go', what? Any politician bringing up the Eurovision crap show can't sink any lower. But maybe they can.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago (4 children)

The sooner Netanyahoo goes the better.

[–] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

It's way more than Netanyahoo, what will change without him? Nothing.

Like Trump, Netanyahoo is the result, not the cause

[–] Gorgritch_umie_killa@aussie.zone 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Agreed. But unfortunately theres more widespread problems with the way the Israelis perceive their neighbours and act on those perceptions (Definitely understating their 'actions'). So Netanyahu going, would be a good thing, but its bigger than one person.

[–] lemming@anarchist.nexus 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, they've been behaving this way since way before Netanyahoo

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

Blaming him solely and pretending that when he's gone that genocide state will be an acceptable democracy again is Bernie the Snake tactics.
They have been terrorizing Palestinians since their existence.
Fuck israel

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

but israeli, and people tied to israel are still going to be here in other countries, pushing thier expansionism.

Fuck Israel.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I always liked Australia

"They called my dad the only rabbi in jackboots

They called my mum the wife of my dad

They circumcised me at the Nuremberg rally

That's how I became a semitic Nazi for life"

Nice lyrics TISM!

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Leave Melbourne’s musical sacred cows from last century alone!

I saw them perform live last month lol.

They have plenty of songs about nazis, jews, politicians and SBS.

Don't get off the train a Caulfield.

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world -1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Why continue to keep trying

To separate the real news from the lying?

In the end it all comes down to this

Turn off SBS.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world -5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Only 80%?

So 1 in 5 Australians are totally cool with the actions of that State?

Christ. They're slowly becoming the southern hemisphere's USA but without the GDP.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

As the article says (which you didn't read).

Australia, in fact, now has the most unfavourable attitudes toward Israel of any Western nation. This month's Pew polling data found 79 per cent of the public now feel unfavourable about it.

So, I guess go complain about other western nations?

[–] YeahToast@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I mean I wouldn't go that far

Should still be higher though

[–] Nath@aussie.zone -1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

That one in five may also be a bit nuanced. Every time Bibi gets in, it's by a bee's dick. That tells me that perhaps not all Israelis are in fact arseholes.

As a citizen of a nation whose government has embarrassed me and made me ashamed of my nation in the past, I get it.

Their government and any who support it's actions - Arseholes. Israeli kids burning their national service letters - they're all right.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

That's Bernie whitewashing talk.
They have a consistent history of massacres and ethnic cleansing.
The vast majority are scumbags.
Fuck that shithole
