EDIT: heck i assumed steam and gog would be the same price right now!!

Original below:

or perhaps i should be asking if it's worth it to wait on the sales?

a lifetime ago, played Morrowind and oblivion for countless hours and have always wondered why i haven't gotten into Skyrim yet! apparently it's so i could share this experience with the wife!

I have had a copy of Skyrim forever now, and she is enjoying life as a khajit!

a far cry from sharing the OG xbox controller (the Duke!) with my little bro, this time around I'm interested in the Multiplayer mod so we could run through all this together.

if it was 15 or 20 bucks on steam I'd go without avacado toast and grab another copy, (/s) but it's currently at $40 and i just don't have the budget to justify that right now. (especially not knowing if the multiplayer works well and stuff.)

i didn't know if there was a secret humble bundle or similar

or like, y'all know that it'll be 12.99 on arbor day

or someone accidentally has extra copies of Skyrim special edition keys they keep tripping over on the way to the bathroom,

does the mod work well?

Thanks in advance, happy gaming!

Apparently answered already, but in this subject, the site IsThereAnyDeal tracks only legitimate sources and their prices:

https://isthereanydeal.com/

Also a store not being tracked is not necessarily an indication of not being legitimate. The team behind #ITAD is small and each platform tracked increases maintenance/upkeep a lot.

Same with https://www.dekudeals.com/

You can add games/consoles to your wishlist and get email notifications when the game or what games on the console are on discount. PC included.

The GOG version is currenyly 75% off for $10 until tonight. If you don't know, GOG is a non-drm storefront that encourages a "you own your games" philosophy. They're an awesome alternative to Steam and often cheaper too.

I've also played the multiplayer mod, and its very fun and works really well. It does require setting up a server and client(s) so a bit of basic networking is involved, but nothing too crazy

GOG (and other places that aren't steam key resellers) and places that have loyalty discounts are the only real way that you get prices lower than Steam

Looks like it goes on sale for $10 every 1-2 months: https://steamdb.info/app/489830/

It will probably be on sale during the summer sale, which starts on the 25th of this month. Up to you on if waiting 11 days is worth saving $30 per copy.

Dunno about the mod but special edition is currently 75% off on GOG. As long as the mod is available on NexusMods or somewhere besides Steam Workshop there should be no problem, I believe.

(... most mods will work just fine with the GOG version, but maybe there are a few that would have problems. You might want the "anniversary edition" for maximum compatibility as well.)

Skyrim Together needs the special edition, version 1.6xx from Steam or GOG. They recommend you dont use the anniversary DLC.

Skyrim Together Reborn was the one I looked at and it does advertise that it's working on GOG.

i got it working one time on one machine yesterday (and played it for a few hours) from gog through lutris, with mod organizer in lutris also.

wasn't able to get it working on my other machine, and later when i restarted the first one, it wouldn't fire back up.

both of these are running bazzite with a 2070

one is AMD (not worked yet)

one is Intel (worked once so far)

Does the offline mode trick not work anymore? then pick it up when it goes on sale for convenience.

You should definitley check out loaded.com. They sell steam keys - very fast and reliable. I've been using them years without issue. They used to be called Cdkeys.com.
