Gee, thanks, USA. Can't wait to see what you fuck up next.
World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Cuba.
Ah, I see they're doing that themselves. Might work. Donnies dumb enough to buy it, perhaps.
Remember guys, it's a fee charged for passage through the strait. It's NOT a toll!
A toll refers to a fee paid for a service or privilege (like using a road or bridge).
See! Definitely NOT a toll!
Well duh? It's neither a road nor a bridge. It can't be a toll!
I don't know man... Sounds like something a velociraptor would say...
Reparations
To be fair other countries, that were not at all allied with the US, shouldn't have to pay the reparations. I'm sure Iran will determine that though.
I think it will likely be called something besides a toll, and will be a way to remind other countries that the US lost the war that they started and if they want to blame someone that they should blame the US and seek to recoup any costs in future trades and deals with the US.
Trump should tell Iran not to bring in maritime fees. In exchange he will get Israel out of Lebanon.
Donnie asked if they'd give Melania the keys to his chastity cage back.
They said they'd unlock him for the night, for about wank on his birthday, but from now on he'll have to pay for each release.
Way to go, cuckold in chief.
You should be placed in horny jail.
It's like someone made a bot only with the instructions to say sexual stuff about every post. None of it needs to make sense, it's just got to be sex sex sex and nothing's off limits.
Even worse is that I’m being downvoted by gooners.
I feel like this was part of Trump's plan all along. He sees a place where someone could be making money but isn't, and that drives him up the f-ing wall. No idea what Trump's angle on this might be, but considering how much of a hard-on he has for the Panama Canal and how the USA is missing-out on that revenue, I was pretty sure that fees would be charged when the straight of Hormuz reopened.
No. He's not smart. He thought he'd win this easily and fucked it up like he does everything else. There is no master plan. He just a goddamn moron who routinely loses any negotiation he even bothers to see through to the end.
No disagreement there. He's not a smart man.
I just have this odd feeling that he can't stand the idea of anyone leaving money on the table, even if that money was never part of any plan ever before. I really think he might have started the war because for no other reason than Iran wasn't charging fees for passage through the straight and he couldn't stand to let it happen. That would be supremely stupid and I think Trump might be just dumb enough to have done it for that reason and only that reason.
No, he's been talking about presidents in adding Iran to boost their terrible numbers since Obama was president.
The level of stupid you're attributing to him is still far too generous. You're still assuming he even knew blockading the strait was an option. I assure you, he's too stupid to have considered it. He told kegsbreath to invade, and thought it would go the same as Venezuela.
You're assuming it's capable of connecting the dots so far as to understand that going to war with Iran (and losing it) would make the regime put a toll system on the strait. He's by no means that smart.
