This is a no agenda less moderated variation of !climate@slrpnk.net. Moderation power is not abused and mods do not suppress ideas in order to control the narrative.
Obvious spam, uncivil posts and misinfo are not immune to intervention, but on-topic civil posts are certain to not be subject to censorship (unlike the excessive interventalism we see in the other climate community).
It was nice knowing you, France.

Thank you. It's definitely not pleasant here at the moment...
Horrendous to think that this might be the best summer for the next 200 years.
Once the AMOC collapses, you can also add arctic winter temperatures to places like London. From -35c to 35c each year will be the norm.
It's amazing that this is still not treated as the existential threat it is.
What you gotta remember is that fixing the environment is not profitable. No self-respecting venture capitalist is going to invest in that. On the other hand, things that actively accelerate the destruction of the planet have massive ROI potential, so we're going full steam ahead on those.
We haven't been serious about climate change and platformed way too many science-deniers up until now.
I found an interesting article on Climate Obstructionism in my country (Ireland). There are many individuals and sectors to blame, such as agri-food, aviation, haulage, and the media. https://doras.dcu.ie/30072/1/Climate-Obstruction-in-Ireland_Kelly%2C%20McNally%2C%20Stephens_%202024.pdf
I imagine a similar article exists for your country. Feel free to share a link.
There's also an organized and well funded misinformation campaign across all media. Right wing oligarchs.
It's very ironic how many of the sectors pushing for climate obstructionism are among the ones to be most affected by climate change
Absolutely. Farmers and haulers protested in Ireland over fuel prices. Those two groups have spend years opposing alternative energy sources that could have helped them today. Plenty of other examples.
Aviation as well. The more unpredictable the climate becomes, the more complex flying with safety will be
I dread to think what the summer will be like in 10, 20 years time
I feel bad for all the native animals and plants that aren't acclimated to the warmer weather. Also, am I reading that correct? 18Β°C? That's mild where I live lol.
Edit: Or is it saying +18Β°C? Confusing map
The tiny text above the map explains the map. It's the temperature anomaly, so how much warmer June 21st 2026 was than some 'normal' level, with the normal level presumably based on historical June 21sts or historical June days at each point of the map.
I saw it, it just was a little confusing to see what the data was trying to represent. Anomaly makes it seem like the temperature itself was the anomaly. It would make more sense to just say Temperature Variance to me.
"Temperature variance" sounds like a variant of temperature variation, which typically refers to a difference between lowest and highest temperature.
Yep, agreed with the previous commenter. +18 means that temperature is 18Β°C higher than the norm for June (in that area) Ireland swelters under 26Β° and full sun, which is definitely unusual here, it should be 15Β°C and rainy.
may the stupidly rich feel immune to climate change and ignore everything
It looks like Europe is in fondue mode.
