Was there any information as to what happened?

[–] amorpheus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Right in the linked article...

A technical malfunction in the train radio system is currently bringing all train service in Germany to a standstill.

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, I was hoping for more information than radio glitch…

[–] philipsdirk@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

ARD (German national news) reported a software update gone wrong

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Many thanks.

Business as usual then for Deutsche Bahn.

[–] CyroSignal@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is it because of the heatwave ?

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nope communications failure, it was resolved before this morning thankfully

Didnt the train used to be very reliable?

Oh. Uh, I see. But Germany has a rep for being very detail-focused, and trains are probably the most organized infrastructure out there.

Too bad.

A Germans favorite conversation topic is how late the train was again. There is certainly worse in other countries but exactly because Germany is supposed to be so punctual it’s an embarrassment.

Are they anxious people?

I don't know if you mean "used to" as in years before, but recently every time i saw people talking about Deutsche Bahn it was to say "lol Deutsche Bahn is having a problem again", so it seems to me their reputation is not (anymore) the reputation of a reliable service.

I'm not saying it's Russian hacker

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

That wouldn't explain all the other years of incompetence. I think they just suck at doing train things

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dunno that was my first thought too. Not saying definitely, just that it sounds like the kind of disruptive actions they like to take.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Then they succesfully integrated an agent into the IT of DB and pushed a faulty update of the communication network that was so bad it also took the redundant backup system down.

But yeah, me three had that thought first.

Thanks for the info.
