Hard pass on that. Especially since they are selling a code in a box instead of a real physical copy.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean, I bought a physical copy of StarCraft 2 back then and it too had a key and the actual physical part was useless anyway. On the other hand, physical copy of Witcher 3 is still perfectly playable.

"back then"

2010... only a couple years before GTA V came out. We were well into the digital era by then.

Can’t say this affects me bc I was never going to pay more than $20 for it.

I wish everyone else would hold out with me.

GTA 5 burned me on them, my 20 quid will still depend on reviews and if they are doing anything shitty at the time. I expect them to change the deal after the first 6 months at this point.

Yeah fuck off with that bullshit, I’ve waited a long time already for this game. I can fucking wait even longer for the pc port and for that to come down to $20 or less. No way in hell is this game worth $80, not unless it is literally flawless. Meaning no bugs, no battlepass, no other macro transactions, no extra paid dlc. It needs to be the greatest game ever made to even come close to justifying that price tag.

Oh and how much I am laughing at all those Rockstar sycophants who said they would buy a brand new console just to play GTA VI on release now. Only for them to buy it again when it comes to pc. Still want to pay $500-900 for a PS5 plus an $80 game? Want to justify to your family that that game will be a nearly $600-1,000 purchase in this economy? Yeah they forcing you to sell the console and game the same day you get it.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

Several of those sycophants also had the gaul to tell me that I too would buy a brand new console just to play GTA VI sooner. No buddy, I can stick to my morales and beliefs. I got time to wait for this game to be available where I want it to be, and for it to be a more reasonable price.

[–] pnwpixel@programming.dev 25 points 2 days ago

That's $80 I'll put towards indie devs.

[–] RabbitMix@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So it's $100, but you can get most of the game for $80.

How much is the battle royal monthly battle pass?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

If they actually had a Battle Royale mode, you know that shit'd be F2P and full of FOMO not just to buy stuff for the BR mode, but also trying to get you to buy the full game.

As if they won’t put that in a premium product.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

My god... GTA Online was a battle royale all along...

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 5 points 1 day ago

Guess I'll be buying from fitgirl

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago

it's ok, i can wait for the crack, then.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

well, I can't say I'm surprised they did, but I can't say it made it any more likely for me to buy the game.

I already disliked the anti linux approach they did with late GTA 5, and I can't say I was all that impressed as a whole with GTA 5 in regards to the multiplayer first mentality it had.

Also the fact that they are already advertising GTA+ as part of their preorder bonuses has me on full red alert.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago

See you in 10 years then.

[–] Switorik@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 days ago

I'm not upset, I'm just disappointed. The general population will enable this behavior.

This is the first $80 digital only base game. Even Mario Kart World had a physical version.

If my wife is interested in playing it, I'll pay their extortionate price. If not, I'll play it once it's available pirated on PC.

EDIT: It's rumored there will be an actual physical release in December, so I'll wait and see what's happening with that first.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

I'm only going to be getting it because I've got a 14 year old son. You get it

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I’d be really impressed if the oppressed gaming world finally decided No, and withheld purchases or even bought a bunch of brave indie games releasing that month. Realistically, I’ll admit that’s probably unlikely. A lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time, and have never heard about things like union busting, haven’t followed the brain drain of every major publisher, etc.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Did GTA 5 get cross platform yet?

My hype was already at a low for GTA VI and I found that it could get lower.
