I played loads of PD2 back in the 2010s. The netcode was a fucking joke, have they fixed that? Like it was always multiple seconds of lag.

Yes, but it Isn't Overkill doing the support.
They've outsourced future updates to a third party patching group.
I play PD2 to this day, and they're doing great.
Within the first few weeks they patched bugs which caused crashes.

They recognize that focusing on 3 is a bad investment and are likely trying to move on from it to something else.
