We just got ourselves our first grinder! It's a cheapie because we're on a pretty tight budget. Kingrinder P0.

I tried 5 clicks from 0, but it wouldn't grind very well. At 10 it actually grinds (takes like 8-10 minutes though!), but I'm not 100% sure if it's grinding fine enough for Turkish. The coffee does get a little bit of foam on top, though! Just a very thin layer. What even constitutes "fine enough for Turkish"? I know it's supposed to be finer than espresso, but does it matter how much finer?

Turkish is fine like talc. If you press your finger in it, you should see your fingerprint. From the photo, I think you are ok.

Oh awesome, that's good to hear!

Don't forget to read your friend's fortune from the grinds at the bottom of the cup.

Fun fun.

No problem. Now where is my jacket. I need to go get a pack of smokes from the gas station.

The fresher the coffee, the thicker the foam. I'm pretty sure it's dissolved co2 in an oil matrix just like espresso crema. I haven't made it in ages despite having a pretty copper çevze, but stale preground coffee never gave any foam whereas freshly ground coffee was thick and creamy and delicious as it should be.

Certainly looks like what they serve me at our offices in Greece and Cyprus.

grind size for Turkish is basically dust or baby powder.

I personally cannot imagine hand grinding Turkish.

That seems fine. Bear in mind that getting plenty of foam is considered a skill and many people have roughly the same coffee.

Should look like cocoa powder which kind of looks like yours does?

Do you like cardamom in it? I do. I haven't tried it but you can grind seeds (removed from pod) right with the coffee beans.

That’s clever!

Better question...how hot is the sand?

Are you boiling on the stove? Or just using your coffee machine to run water/steam through it?

[–] forestbeasts@pawb.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Boiling on the stove! We technically have a coffee machine but it's packed away in its box and we just use other stuff (in large part because drip machines are easy to forget grounds in and hard to deep clean).

The little pot it's in in the picture is what we boil it in. Cezve, came with a can of turkish-preground coffee but that's basically empty now.

The best way!

As an average white dude I enjoy Turkish coffee. One Turkish restaurant I went to and asked for one, they looked at me with shock and said " I don't think you want that, its not like American coffee." I'm like "I know, I like it". Then they said "its not like regular coffee, we cook it in a pot, the coffee stays in it, it is strong" etc.

Lol, dude, just let me order what I like
