web-based agentic OS with the Copilot AI baked directly into the system

I'm impressed, they managed to make something worse than Windows. I never thought it could be possible.

You see? By now you should have learned that you never, NEVER, say out louds things like "there's no way someone could do something dumber than X". Because it seems people tend to take this statement as a challenge. Proof is what microslop are doing with this; apparently it seemed impossible to make something dumber than the present windows and look what they come out with...

Leave it to Microsoft to beat Microsoft in the worst Microsoft products/services competition.

Windows, as a React app running as a PWA, inside Edge.

I really really hope they do this because it would be the end of the company.

I really hope they don't, because it wouldn't. Nobody's been all that happy with windows since the 90s, but back then there was this expectation that surely, mistreated customers and broken laws would have some kind of consequences. In modern times all the gigacorps know it never ever happens, and gloatingly exploit it at every turn. They don't even try to hide it anymore.

Windows is more dogshit than ever, and was still accelerating when it smashed through the bottom of the barrel. One of the major reasons is that it's just not that important to MSFT anymore. They have the AI hype bullshit after all, and Azure and corporate licensing

I bet they spent an insane amount of resources to come up with this steaming pile of shit so bad that even Microsoft couldn't release it

At least once a week after using my work pc, i ask myself "are the software engineers who built this proud of themselves? How could they possibly be?"

[–] Slatlun@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It seems to get buggier with every update. Couldn't they just do nothing and have a better product?

[–] amio@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Yes, but "AI"! Everything needs to have the AI that everyone definitely wants and doesn't hate. I'm waiting for them to put "copilot" in copilot, so you can slop while you slop. Nothing's about having a good product anymore, or at least nothing that applies to you or me.

Bold of you to assume engineers are involved any more. It's all interns, offshore contractors, and AI generation.

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Unpaid interns*

Probably not, but software engineering has been captured by shitty management and MBA and doing the correct engineering process isn't encouraged.

Everything has to ship yesterday and every bugs will be fixed tomorrow unless it affects the bottom line.

So lots of software engineers move from companies to companies getting burned out and not giving a shit anymore. They don't care about what's shipped because almost every advice they give is ignored, and every process is bypassed. So they are there for the paycheck, so might as well get paid more.

Great idea! Move all the garbage to a separate OS and remove it from base windows.

Leaked? It's been public for a month or two
