The click-rate on this thing has to be through the roof when a single machine failing is news.

A single machine failing represents probably 10% of the entire population tho
How exactly did you come to that conclusion?
Anecdotal evidence has led me to estimate that the entirety of Valve's stock of Steam Machines was ten units.
Happy cake day!
lol, people down voting someone wishing someone else a nice day. Imagine that.
Thanks :p
There will always be a few hardware failures, we will have to wait to see if larger tends develop.

Typical Tuesday night for us cool folk.
I know I've been working a lot, but please tell me it's not Tuesday
I like the idea of a floor of death.

Just need green and we can have RGB of death. Stick blue and yellow next to each other perhaps?
I believe Apple had the rainbow beachball of death ages ago

1 failure should be a quick replacement by Valve. Rma it.
Only if they have parts.
Any rollout like this has a few percent of units assigned for RMA purposes. It's absolutely normal to have some hardware failures and replacing them is expected beforehand.
Things like this is why I decided, I don’t want to be an early adopter.
It's one single failure. Statistically it would be amazing if there wasn't a single DOA unit.
ouch, wondering if its overheating or they were sold a bad card
Gamers Nexus tests don't show overheating to be an issue, it could just be a defect but only time will tell.
The airflow in the case is pretty great for something with a solid front - thermally there isn't much to criticize about the steam machine. that it ran for 20 minutes and then died with an GPU post error would make me think less about a direct chip failure and more about a resistor or capacitor having a contact issue, prompted by vibrations from the fan and the previous transport, maybe even outright transport damage escalating after a short runtime.
There's a lot of power limitations that Valve put on the Steam Machine to prevent it from getting warm or needing to speed up the fans (making it louder). It's part of why the Steam Machine doesn't perform well compared to similarly priced computers
Heat is definitely not the issue
wtf. I thought they were still in reservation mode. I got my reservation in but not a buy option. Is this a review unit?
If you got in the queue, you were sent an email confirming it so. Then you just wait for your window to purchase. If you didnt get an email, then you didnt make it in this time around.
you didnt get picked for the raffle then.
