Stop giving world destabilizing billionaire assholes any attention. You are just spreading his message. Negative attention is also attention. Why is this even in the Technology category? If you desperately want to give people like this any attention, do it the Luigi way.

Shut the fuck up you Nazi bastard!

[–] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Peter Thiel is fucking insain, and as close as being the image on antichrist anyone has been.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

the anti-christ has apostates, thiel has VANCE and alex karp, and by extension trump too, and reality distortion filter.

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 96 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's almost as though Peter Thiel was a fucking lunatic.

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Was? AFAIK it's still alive and still an unhinged lunatic.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

But hope springs eternal.

Aren't the Chinese pushing for AI too? That comment makes no sense

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 10 hours ago

trying to string the boogeyman communist, and racism together in one sentence to get his point across.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

It's nationalism, guys like this think AGI is just around the corner and whoever gets it first will become a god, so anyone in the west calling to slow things down on AI is helping the Chinese communists win.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Well, China would rather have AI in China than in the US. I don't think that that part is what's dumb about this.

I think that if I were the current American far-right, I'd stop dragging the pope into this stuff. Like, there is an anti-Catholic strain in the far-right that's been around for a long time, but as I've commented before, if you start getting those anti-Catholic Protestants riled up, you're also probably going to antagonize the Catholics, and a Catholic-Protestant schism in the US would be really bad for the Republican Party, since they're trying to keep social conservatives as a bloc in their coalition.

I guess it's more-understandable with Thiel than when Trump was having a spat with the pope, since Thiel isn't as directly a political operator, but still.

If the pope says something that you don't like, and you're a prominent right-wing figure in the US, even if you really have it in for Catholics, you're probably better-off biting your tongue and just addressing the thing they said, not turning it into a conflict with the person. Like, if I were Thiel, I'd have said "AI is really important to make the US competitive on the international stage" or something. Whatever, but avoid referencing the pope in particular.

unlike the US, chinese citizens arent anti ai either. peter theil is unginged.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 33 points 1 day ago

Peter Thiel is a nutjob with far too much power.

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 7 points 18 hours ago

Oh Look the antichrist enthusiast has things to say...

[–] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 10 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Why does the media keep giving a platform to insane people simply because they have money??

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

thiel has platforms which he can make insane claims, he often shys away from the news for decades. his bankrolling hot-dog skin agains gawker wasnt by accident, because the "tabloid" was also reporting on his companies.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

Well, ar the moment it's because the insane money people bought a of these media outlets.

[–] aamram@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Never thought I would be backing a pope in my life... yet here we are. Fuck you Peter Thiel

[–] Cherry@piefed.social 1 points 23 hours ago

He’s been getting into some beefs lately. They seem to be more from the side of others.

The 2027 bingo board gonna be wild. I am hoping we will see the pope vrs tech vampire mma style fight.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 6 points 19 hours ago

Someone give this nut bar some acid or shrooms. Will most likely sort his brain out.

[–] apftwb@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago

A reasonable statement from a reasonable human being and not someone suffering from psychosis.

[–] 33550336@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

This has potential for such a good memes with Pope Leo in Mao outfit

[–] Mereo@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because the pope’s message could influence some Americans, but is unlikely to be heeded by people in China, Thiel argued, the encyclical threatened to slow down only one side of the “race between the US and China” to advance AI.

His argument simply doesn't make sense. After all, communism is about the abolition of religion. The Chinese Communist Party strictly regulates religions in China. Of course, the Chinese are not influenced by the Pope because most of them are not Christian.

I mean, what the hell is he talking about?

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

The use of the phrase "Chinese Communists" is just fearmongering tailored to the ignorant maga base. It would have been sufficient to just assert that the pope was an agent of the Chinese, but the addition of the word "communists" emphasizes the perception of evil amongst far-right chuds.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Hundreds of countries and thousands of political parties, but Peter picked China and Communism for the Pope.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

This the same sociopath whose excellent judgement tells him Greta Thunberg is the Antichrist.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 3 points 20 hours ago

Oh is she the lucky one who got identified as his antichrist? The mental gymnastics billionaires go through is remarkable.

[–] AMillionMonkeys@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

"Technology"?

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

This sounds like a level -5 iceberg conspiracy

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Peter Thiel is a complete asshat but I deeply hate the new media campaign being orchestrated by the church. All the Pope had to do was quote one line from Lord of the Rings and jump on the AI hate bandwagon and suddenly, everyone forgets the church helps and protects child rapists and is the largest source of anti-lgbtq propaganda.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 5 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

The world isn't black or white, you can support some things someone says/does and not other things

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Is whitewashing technically considered black and white?
