We should be fighting capitalism based on the harm it's doing to people and places.

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago

Authoritarianism is an admission of abject weakness.

A healthy, broadly educated population, which feels safe and secure, is incompatible with, and toxic to, conservative and authoritarian ideologies.

They need you to be sick, stupid, and scared.

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I heard communism is spreading like wildfire. The Federal Government wants to take over elections, there are subsidized gas stations, the President is telling private companies that the federal government needs stakes in their companies, and the president has told groceries to lower their prices or else, secret police on the street shooting at people at traffic stops... Communism!

Or are we talking about the fake communism Republicans point to to scare constituents into voting Republican against their best interest?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 16 points 1 day ago

Threatening to use the military to attack American citizens? Seems like a good reason to say NO! to your request.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You wouldn't be using the government to punish political speech and expression, would you, Mikey-boy? Wouldn't want that pendulum to swing back the other way to you and your fascist pals, would you bud?

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

Man I wish we had communism on our shores.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How about fighting fascism in the government instead?

[–] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Same thing. What they mean by “communism” and “socialism” is just “we need more money for fascism”. Plain and simple projection.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

The enemy within is making its move outward.

[–] DrakeAlbrecht@lemmy.world 145 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If you can't beat 'em, rig the elections.

If that doesn't work, throw 'em in jail.

Straight out of the autocrats' playbook.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 6 points 1 day ago

They already made "antifascism" illegal.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you can’t beat 'em, rig the elections.

If that doesn’t work, throw 'em in jail.

And if that doesn't work, start prepping your military for the inevitable civil war.

Or buld out your own new Independent Criminal Enterprise army that is anonymous, removes their license plates, can sweep anyone off the street based on profiling, whisks them away to a private for profit detention center without due process and answers only to dear leader

Oh vait

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't forget "is getting their own airline operating 24/7 specifically for deportations and transporting people to international blacksites".

[–] LemmyBruceLeeMarvin@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

You see, our Originalist interpretation of the Constitution allows us to not only do what ever we want, but justify it

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 49 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, for SOME reason, communism is becoming incredibly popular in the United States.

Could it be the fascists running everything?

Oh, I'm sorry, ruining everything.

[–] BottleBoardBakon@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Two things can be true!

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 96 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

In the weeks following a series of Democratic primary victories by progressive and democratic socialist candidates in New York, Colorado, Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, and elsewhere, Trump and his allies in the GOP have relentlessly hammered on the idea that the nation was under siege by “godless Communists” who want to “completely destroy the traditional American way of life,” rhetoric that echoed McCarthy era red-baiting to many critics.

These "Godless Communists" who are looking to "destroy the traditional American way of life" are doing it by winning elections. So, what Trump and Johnson are saying is that we should send the military after these office holders because he doesn't like their politics.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yep. If you think shit is dark now, it's gonna get way darker before it starts to get better. I'm the most worried I've ever been about the few months of October through January. They've come way too far and committed way too many crimes to simply let themselves be democratically and constitutionally removed from office.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Little Mikey Johnson has said he's running a protection racket.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They’ve come way too far and committed way too many crimes to simply let themselves be democratically and constitutionally removed from office.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Not long ago, I would have said the same thing about Orban as well. But they voted him out, he left, and things seem to be improving greatly in Hungary.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Hungary is not America.

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

We might as well call them "Prideful Sadducees and Pharisees"

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

A well funded socialist organization is now going to be used to fight socialism.

[–] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

What a fantastic way to inspire a socialist revolt as a reaction to oppression.

These people are so thirsty for a civil war. Personally, I’d rather just see the union fracture apart. Let these buttwads have their backwards-ass fascist states, while leaving the rest of us out of it.

[–] ContactClosure@lemmus.org 5 points 1 day ago

Mike, it's OK if you like touching peen. Be yourself, it's awesome. You might quit being a fucking cunt once you've felt what actual freedom is like.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Bringing back the Red Scare to make America Great Again?

Fuck.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

The red scare has been their playbook for a long time.

[–] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

It’s been the red scare ever since the reactionaries stopped New Deal progressivism in the 1950s. If that didn’t happened, we would’ve kept pace with the rest of the world.

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 20 points 1 day ago

Wow, deploy the army to sort out the domestic communists! What a bold plan for the coup!

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah, because the real threat today isn’t fascism having taken over government, or christian nationalism, or billionaires bleeding us dry and stripping our rights. Nope. It’s the red menace. All those communists who we all know in real life, who [checks notes]… oh wait… do not actually exist meaningfully in government.

Also, Bigfoot is coming for your children. Better watch out! 🙄

e: don’t get me wrong, I wish leftism was a real threat to fascism in the US, but it’s just not yet.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

do not actually exist meaningfully in government.

Yeah, that's what they want you to think!

It's also true, but are you really gonna let facts get in the way?

[–] stumu415@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about fighting fascism?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago

That's considered "unAmerican" now.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Okay pedophile...

[–] Dryad@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

I’ll take goodness communism over fascism wielding a cross and wearing a flag.

They’re talking about democratic socialism of course though, which is expressly not communism, but bring ignorant of the difference is also a feature of the American education system.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Let me guess: the little Keebler Elf defines anything that is not conservative, not pro-pedo-in-chief, and not pro-Seven Mountain Mandate as "Communism".

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Did he inherit the Keebler Elf title from Jeff Sessions? Was there an interim Elf?

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

So when they say they want to go back to the 50s they mean everything, even the random Red Scare witch hunts.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

The most blatantly grifting administration in U.S. history and conservatives/regressives will STILL vote for them across the board. Best we can get is them souring on Trump now that it doesn't matter anymore.

They will absolutely keep doing this to America unless we do something about it.

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

No country on Earth is further away from communism than the current US.

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 0 points 8 hours ago

Nah, the US already has gulags set up that they throw any dissenters into.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Is the communism in the room with us now Mike?

[–] sportsjorts@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

Time is a flat circle baby and every inch of it is fighting communism!!!! What the fuck is happening? It’s like no one in this country went to school.

[–] bigbangdangler@reddthat.com 6 points 1 day ago

What is Joseph McCarthy up to lately, anyway? Been so long since I've seen him.

[–] Flying_Lynx@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Communism....hmm right Looking at Russia: Things Like the existence of oligarchy, nepotism, plundering of the poor, being against free press, having police raids, ....? Looking back at the US.

[–] discocactus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Russia post Soviet collapse is 100% what they are trying to achieve here. Balkanization, genocide, profiteering, and mask off oligarchy. Seems to be working.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Free speech for me, but not for thee.

[–] discocactus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago
[–] DERRALEXANO@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They need more money for the PDF file protection program.
