We learn something new every day. This is a community dedicated to informing each other and helping to spread knowledge.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Unless included in our Whitelist for Bots, your bot will not be allowed to participate in this community. To have your bot whitelisted, please contact the moderators for a short review.

It’s ok, He’s a republican. Rules and laws do not apply to them anymore apparently!

[–] limer@lemmy.ml 68 points 2 days ago

We are talking about one of most openly criminal politicians in the USA. He has spent decades stealing from Texas. He just does not get paid in money to his bank accounts.

His total worth must be north of a billion dollars, given how long he has been in power. It’s distributed across family and hidden in dozens of ways.

Are there any republicans not corrupt?

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

That's not true and you know it. Some of them are 100% open and honest... about their desire to rape children.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 9 points 2 days ago

Yeah they all lived in the 1800s.

[–] frank@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 days ago

Yes! Some are hyper-corrupt or super-corrupt instead

I really hope for the Texans that they decide to vote in Talarico. Everything i have heard of him seems to be a good fit for the state. i do not approve of the amount of religion in politics in general, but at least Talarico seems to be an upstanding citizen. Paxton is just another old, rich, white republican with no morals.

Tommy Tallarico? Video game music mastermind, Tommy Tallarico? Tommy Tallarico, creator of Roblox Oof? Tommy "My mother would be very proud" Tallarico? World record holder Tommy Tallarico???

And some people in my country -- constantly plagued by institutionalized corruption but so soaked in escapist entertainment -- think American/Japanese/South Korean politicians are incorruptible, no thanks to the movies and Youtube videos they consume.

"Culture"...movies, music, television, books, etc...thats one of America's ~~biggest~~ most important exports.

But really any art that's built for commercial incentive will always be, at some level, propaganda.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Expanded up a bit because it's not just one country.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Hmmm, methinks there's some fuckery about.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 2 points 2 days ago

Article doesn't load

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

How much does his spouse make?

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Nancy Pelosi is worth $278 million on a sallary of $223,500 per year...

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 42 points 2 days ago

Oh, well, I guess Paxton's corruption is okay then.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Pelosi was rich before she entered politics bud, they have family money like a motherfucker. Her Dad was the mayor of Baltimore, they've been a wealthy politically connected family for the better part of a hundred years if not longer (I haven't looked farther than a generation).

[–] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She's def used her position to enrich herself further but she can never say "started from the bottom now we're here".

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Oh for sure but she done been rich before that's my only point.

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago
