Randy Pitchford isn't the CEO of Epic. He's the guy who forgot a flash drive full of porn at a Medieval Times.

EGS being an expression of an executive's humiliation fetish might explain a lot.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 days ago

He doesn't even work for Epic though

[–] tuxiqae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

Seemingly he's now the CEO (and not ~~president~~ like the intro on Wikipedia says) of Gearbox, the studio famous for making Borderlands

Wishful thinking, mfer thought he could “The Secret” out of competition

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago

He tried to buy loyalty instead of earn it.

Epic can literally give away a game and people will claim it. Then go buy the same game on steam for not inconsequential amounts of money and play it there instead.

Scientists could study this level of fumble for decades.

You called me out lol! I collect Epic free games but only play games on Steam.

[–] Sciaphobia@sh.itjust.works 30 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I disliked Epic and what they were trying to do so much I never got it even to claim/download the free things.

Same, complete waste of time

Epic spent all their "investment in technology" money on Fortnite development, poaching developers with exclusivity deals, and poaching users with free games. If they spent even a quarter of that same amount of money just making a decent competitor storefront MAYBE they'd at least be close to being an equal to Steam. But even that is wishful thinking because Steam users are pretty stubborn and Valve hasn't done anything stupid enough to genuinely piss us off yet.

lol. The Epic store is as bare bones as it gets.

He assumed Epic would do everything in good faith or something. Nope, they just give out free games.

[–] hypnicjerk@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

you may want to check your facts there OP

[–] Casanunda@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure Steam has even more users than in 2019.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 38 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They're probably referring to the fact that Randy Pitchford is not the CEO of Epic, that would be douchecanoe galore Tim Sweeney. OP probably goofed when copying this post from the bad place.

[–] Casanunda@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Fair enough:) I was following the drama closely back then and they both were gobbling each other dicks disgustingly all the time.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 days ago

but the CEO of Epic is tim sweeney, what are you on about??

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 8 points 4 days ago

Hey, he's still got three years! It might happen!

[–] Hudell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

Hey let's make a new store and put all our efforts into making publishers sell things there, including making it easier to scam customers. Surely the customers will just come to it naturally.
