Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card

"It's all thanks to the books at my local library."

Soooo ... I found out yesterday that my library has reciprocal borrowing privileges with another local-ish library, so this afternoon I headed over to get myself a library card and grab me some books. It's a really cool library - they have free period products in the women's bathroom, there's a partially-finished jigsaw in the kid's corner, they have museum passes and other cool stuff.

And the second-coolest thing was that they had multiple designs for the library card and you got to choose which one you wanted.

The coolest thing is that one of the card options has an image of Grogu carrying a book. :)

Reciprocal borrowing privileges at first made me think the librarians got to come to your house and borrow your books.

I know one of the libraries in the system I'm in has a 3D printer but I think it's only for that towns residents so I'm sad.

Why might that be? Is it just such a highly sought service, and they found they need to put some artificial limit on it?

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

No idea. They might have loosened the restrictions by now, that was several years ago!

I wonder how much they had to shell out to Disney for that.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Probably $0, small places like libraries and stores usually fly under Disney's radar.

My local game shop has one person who is extremely talented with coloured highlighters. They hand draw characters like Spiderman and Kratos and all sorts on their physical signage. It's epic, but I doubt they asked for permission 😂

A document formally issued to innumerable people by a government institution is a far cry from a hand-drawn poster made purely for personal decoration.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I suppose. I dunno how your libraries work, but here they're I would call "pseudo government". In the same way that a public school is technically government, but also nobody sues the teacher for using spiderman as a subject during art class

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Right, but the schools aren't putting Moana on the student IDs, either.

[–] SatyrSack@quokk.au 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Or how much Disney shelled out to them for that.

As if The Mouse would pay someone else to use their IP.

most bards I know use the power of love.

[–] notabot@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The power of love is a curious thing...

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

Make a one man weep, make another man sing.

Alchemist: SCIENCES!

"Is there a Mrs Queequeg.. err Queekweg, err.. " goddamn Melville where did you ever find that name or how to spell it in English?!

Oh wait, maybe that was a different episode

[–] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Isn't sorcery power from a pact or deal with a higher power?

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh yeah you definitely right, I was thinking of the wrong one

[–] Cypher@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago

An easy mistake when the party warlock and sorcerer both say their powers come from daddy
