An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

You are one of maybe 5% capable of it.

Thank you for the reminder! After seeing this post, I cleaned the infuser for my Dinamica.

[ EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER ]

My machine has an identical part. Don't forget to lube the o-rings with food-safe grease from time to time after cleaning.

TIL people make coffee with car parts.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I run the exhaust through the coffee for that extra cancerous flavor

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Honestly some of the most rewarding coffee I’ve had tasted like diesel

It looks to me like the brew chamber from some super-automatic espresso machine.

The silver bit is the shower screen on the head of a plunger that goes down and up to form a puck and then comes back up and the little arm on the left would push off the spent puck after brewing. Or that's my guesses based on taking a different one apart.

From a MagnificaS

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lol, right?

And here I sit with my $100 DeLonghi espresso machine, where monthly I have to burn the microfilter clean with a pocket torch.

For $100 it works surprisingly well, much better than I expected.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Idk I just know I gotta clean it monthly, allegedly, lol

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I clean my Magnifica way too infrequently. Even so, that thing keeps going and going, though it likes to eat the tubing o-rings. Don't think I've actually replaced any major parts on it though.

I checked it a while back and I'm well over 50,000 shots on the beast in the 15 years we've had it.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have a MagnificaS too! Second hand. No trouble so far.

I also had one of those expensive Jura things, also second hand, then it broke, allegedly that cog mechanism is bad from the guess of a technician. The price I heard made me forget about it and just busted out the magnifica from storage.

Wonder how long it will last me

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My parents had the same Magnifica for longer than I have. I have to take orings over and fix it every once in a while, as well. I'm sure it doesn't have as many shots as mine but it's up there.

Great machines, but I can't speak to whether it's enshittified these days or not. I'm tempted to pick up a stash of the major parts or a low mileage parts machine for repairs while I can find them. Pretty sure a lot of the parts aren't made anymore.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I gotta see how to do maintenance on it myself. Right now I'm clueless though I guess the orings you're talking about are those which can be found at the front top of the machine.

but I can’t speak to whether it’s enshittified these days or not

Eh we can all guess that they are...

Thankfully the second hand market exists.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Mine sounds older, but pretty much anywhere the water supply tubing runs, it has a red Viton oring around the tube and a brass backer that clips it into the fittings. That oring will start to leak as it gets old. They're a weird metric size so finding them was a hassle, but now I have a bag of them for that job.

I've also replaced the tubing itself with teflon tubing that you can get from 3D printer websites. They use it as Bowden tubes.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

Saved for later, thanks man!

[–] pomfegranate@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Very dull. I ought to clean my dinamica

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If it wasn't dirty, why did you clean it?

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

You can't know that its clean unless you clean it!

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well I spent a minute taking it out, and in my mind at that point I gotta spend another 10 minutes cleaning it

It's already out there...might as well!
