I got to go snorkeling at a retired oil rig once long ago, and it was pretty similar to this. The area of the Gulf of Mexico is mostly a ocean desert due to all the shrimp boats scraping the bottom for years, but the oil rig legs were a lively artificial reef with lots of fish. I even saw a barracuda and a sea turtle while out there in the water. Imagine if the design of these kinds of structures factored in this ecological potential from the beginning.
