Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
Don't forget that Daniel Radcliffe is a huge trans ally
I would consider him averaged sized.
I'd argue that trans lives matter more than JK Rowling's life. I'm bringing out the champagne when that bitch dies, and I don't even like alcohol.
The easiest of trolley problems
The fact that she recently threatened to sue amnesty international and posted an upskirt picture of a (trans) woman (claiming it contained genital, and stating it's because this woman refused to debate her) would in most circumstances convince people to drop her. But for some reason we're still struggling to convince people that they can live without this series.
It was important to my childhood too, but I don't get to have nostalgia the hatemonger who wrote the books made them into something deeply associated with extreme bigotry against me, I wish that ruined it for everyone else too.
Jesus Christ she literally committed a sexual offence ahainst someone while claiming she wants to prevent sexual offences. FFS
Disgusting, I plan to make sure she gets none of my money. She hasn't really since the last main series movie came out. I just wish people would get over their nostalgia and see how this woman is using the money gained from tgeir love to fuel hate. I have never eaten ChicFilA and don't plan to for instance. I do my best to not support problematic shit when I can. Buy bootleg merch if you want the stuff and pirate the movies and games.
I made my kindergarten teacher call me Harry Potter for like 2 weeks when i first got glasses. They were HP branded glasses too. I had all the binders and everything. Harry Potter, Star Wars, and LOTR were all pretty equal in my mind as a little kid. (i now recognize that LOTR is superior and SW is better than HP).
JK Prowlings actions shattered me. Even though i was no longer that level of fanatic by that time. She was just getting super vocal about her trans hate and racism as i was coming out and starting my transition. What a cunt. Ruined a good thing for so many because she couldnt just not be the worst.
People hate trans people so much that if they had any they'd throw any ethics they had out the window to get rid of them.
I think it's also important to remember that they're not going to articulate it to themselves as "hate," when they think they're only passively supporting someone who is hateful. Liberals conceive of morality as individual actions and intent exclusively, which is partially why we still have to teach adults that racism is more than one person calling another a slur.
The idea that financially supporting -- let alone merely endorsing -- a franchise owned by a hateful person is inconceivable to them as an act of hatred when they have no ill-will toward any trans people individually (if they even know any). I'm sure we've all experienced the family member who shuts down at the notion that they have to be better than simply not committing hate crimes directly.
the sad thing is that harry potter was one of the only things that kept me alive before i came out of the closet/transitioned T_T mostly for leaky, starkid, and pottercast not so much anything rowling did
(i like land of stories now more because chris colfer is a FAR better author and person than rowling)
i don't want anyone to feel conflicted because they like harry potter and hate jowling kowling rowling. i want them to feel peace with not watching or reading harry potter because it's a terribly written story by a talentless hack who got extremely lucky. literally everything about it is awful, the characters, the plots, the conclusions...
please get over your nostalgia. you're not a child anymore, just think about how much you projected your own good will into a story full of bigotry and vile.
Harry Potter doesn't matter
It's a pretty good way to train boycotting.
I'm so bummed about Rowling. I loved those books so much growing up. Its such a shame the person who put such whimsy and magic in the world has gotta spew that hate. RIP Harry, a wizard no more
If it makes you feel any better (and sorry if it does the opposite), she sort of plagiarised from earlier series including The Worst Witch and The Adventures of Willy the Wizard. Kinda all of it, including the premise (magical vs ‘normal’ kids called to a magical school, houses, many of the spells and plots, etc. So much so that the latter sued her over it (that author lost, because it wasn’t a word-for-word lift).
If you like the genre, I’d recommend reading those series instead now.
Spew hate, fund hate, systemically implement hate and violence, politically platform and fund hate, and do horrific disgusting acts to individuals all the time.
Jkr is evil. Not a trash person, not a politically polarizing person, not just an outspoken person I disagree with. But an actual. Evil. Fucking. Human.
It's strange to me how they wrote a book about how muggles are oppressed, then they turn around and become Voldemort IRL
From the very beginning she makes it clear which muggles are "good", and which are not, and thus are ok to do violence to. Same with other groups.
Yeah, Hagrid performs body modification surgery on an 11 year old boy because he stole a cake. This is presented by the story as just deserts.
I was given the books as a kid, I wasn't really into reading like most children and my pet budgie ended up ripping them apart and covering them with shit. :)
AI image?
I think it's just a weird font
The shape varies between instances of the same letter
Edit: nvm I could be wrong
Yes. Yes they always will.
JKR is a fucking ghoul. A projection worst than any of her creations.
Just pirate it ffs, separate art from artist and simply don't give her any money
Attention sometimes matters more than your money. And todays world is all about attention.
We will all do better to ignore such artists altogether.
I have the pirated Full Cast audio books. After book 3, they slowly get worse. First 3 I can defend as simple kids solving over the top mysteries. Reminds me of the Enid Blyton and The Secret Seven books I read as a kid.
But the casual elf slavery. Dumbing down politics for kids. The torture being used for detention in book 5. Pushed me enough to buy the inkheart audio books.
There are probably other books for teens that have magic and fantasy, but I am reccomending Inkheart by Cornelia Funke right now.

Lady Space marines ftw \m/
(I don't know the equivalent for that in the old world or mortal realms but whatever)
