Need stylistic advice - White winter rims? (lemmy.ca)

I need to get 17 inch winter rims for this bad boy.

I was thinking of getting these, hoping for a yellow Lancer Ralliart look.

The bolt pattern, size, and offset is perfect for the K4.

Is white + yellow a dumb idea? Should I go with matte silver instead like the trim pieces? I'm really struggling to picture it for some reason, but I feel like satin white wheels on a popping colour would work.

EDIT: I've received a lot of excellent suggestions, but I do have some criterion:

  • Must be winter approved (salt / brine resistant coating)
  • Must be 17x7.5 or 17x8
  • Must have an offset of roughly +42mm (7.5 inch width)
  • Must have a lug pattern of 5x114.3 with a centre bore of at least 67.1
  • Must be available for sale in Quebec
  • Must be under $250 CAD per wheel before taxes

For reference, my stock rims are 18x8 with a +56 offset.

EDIT 2: I think I've decided on getting the 720 Form FF6 after comments mentioning similar looking wheels, a lower spoke count and thicker spokes. I'm willing to stretch my budget for them, especially since they are flow formed and higher quality than the Dai I was originally looking at. I'm still sold on the white since I couldn't find a matte silver rim that fit my taste and budget.

I will pull the trigger tomorrow morning. Let me know if you have more comments. Thanks all!

EDIT 3: Can't make up my mind lmao. I inquired with a local shop about getting some light gray Sparco rims. See comments.

I recommend a lighter grey white will turn grey in the winter slush anyways. Grey also still shows the detail in the wheel without going “HEY LOOK AT MY WHEELS!!” (Black usually crushes detail and makes wheels look like forgotten holes imo)

Photoshop them on and squint at it.

Satin coating, as you said. Bright mattes and metallics don't usually go well.

Me, I'd be going gloss black Momo's with their bright yellow logo extra big as a popping highlight. If going white, I'd aim more toward a lower spoke count.

I think the black trim around the arches kinda clashes with the white rims.

The Peugeot doesn't have that, and it works better on it.

Good point, so you would go with black rims, or some shade of matte gray?

I wish I could find the matte gray Sparco, but they seemingly aren't sold here :( all the other aftermarket gray / black wheel designs that I found look incredibly tacky and over designed.

I actually did find the matte silver sold and shipped in Canada!

I think it matches the silver trim basically perfectly. I will ceramic coat them before putting them on. It doesn't scream as much, and it doesn't look cheap or tacky. You said the white clashes with the black wheel arches, and after consideration, I agree.

EDIT: wrong lug nut pattern, but the correct pattern does exist as SPAR-W29047504LG. I asked a local seller if they could source a set of four.

We do get some clear days, but otherwise the entire car becomes gray with road salt 😅

Funny you mention the high spoke count. I was actually looking at these, but the price tag made me reconsider lmao

Gloss black will unfortunately just turn gray in winter, I was debating between matte silver and matte white for winter. I had gloss black steelies on my previous car and they were just gray 50 after a day of driving, covered in salt brine.

EDIT: Those wheels have too little offset anyway, they'll stick out way too much much at 35mm :/ the stock wheels seem to have a huge +56 mm offset

EDIT2: I actually got confused because the stock wheels are 8 inch wide while these are 7.5 inch wide, +35mm is only 16mm further out, which is acceptable

Well I like the spoke count and their width.

Something about it seems more "fit for purpose" and less "safe" than the others. If you're going white, they gotta look confident in themselves and avoid little subtle or sleek design choices. I think because the others with higher spoke count have no depth in the dish and sort of have a smooth convex out to the rim, they look too clean and safe which goes against the more aggressive lines on the car as well.

Them lower spokes ones, though, "Here I am! Let's perform!"

Edit: Plus bonus points if your calipers and discs look nice.

I like the way you think.

I may pull the trigger on the FF6 tomorrow. They're higher quality than my original pick, they do fit, and I'm willing to stretch my budget for a higher end flow-formed wheel that will be less likely to crack.

Personally I don't think it's worth for winters. Summers tho... I think it'd be better. Less salt, slush, and shit for sure.

Yeah but I have to pick something, and my steelies just instantly rusted to shit on my previous car.

The stock rims are 18 inches, and they are expensive enough that I want them nowhere near our winter roads. 17 inch gives me more tire meat.

Good point, I'm from Montreal and we have a lot of brine and slush.

Though I had a lava orange Elantra before this, and it, along with its black steel winter rims, were constantly gray from the salt brine so I think it's whatever.

Thanks! It's actually a hatchback though, sorry! There's a wagon version of the Kia K4 in Europe if you're curious (K4 Sportswagon).

Though I will say, the trunk area is quite deep for a hatchback, and that shooting brake look with the hidden rear handles is chef's kiss. They definitely made it look sportswagon-y.

Sparco Terras I think would look good. They are available in white. I have a set on a project car, and look awesome. They a durable without being too heavy and decent price. Kind of gives that rally look to the car. Maybe some rally style mud flaps. I'm a fan of RallyArmor. I think they have a kit for your car.

They look really good, but unfortunately out of my price range. Hoping to spend < $1000 CAD for the set lol

Maybe if I win the lottery, I'll put them on as a summer set!
