Saudi Arabia has spent five months trying not to get dragged into a regional conflict, keeping open channels of communication with Tehran even as Iranian drones targeted its oil industry.

Now it appears hemmed in, facing enemies in three directions: Iran as well as its proxies in Iraq and Yemen.

In the last week, the kingdom has faced missile attacks from the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen, drone attacks from pro-Iranian militias in Iraq and renewed threats from Tehran.

The Houthis didn't attack Saudi Arabia until the Saudis started bombing Yemen in a genocidal war started by Bonesaw. Iran didn't attack Saudi Arabia until the Saudis joined Netanyahu and various UAE princelings to vociferously and successfully lobby idiot Trump to bomb Iran.

I don't know what's up in Iraq, besides the state being ineffectual and there being competing militias.

Looks to me like chickens coming home to roost.

Hey, show some respect!

It's Mister Bone Saw, to you, sir/ma'am.

The border between Iran and Iraq is more de jure than de facto until you go west enough to find Sunnis, so you can just count Iraq with Iran here.

Iran didn’t attack Saudi Arabia until the Saudis

Did you forgot hezbollah? They have been attacking saudi's interests in a long time... But it's more like a low intensity war: hezbollah vs jihadis

Fuck them both.

They have been attacking saudi's interests in a long time...

Uh... explain?

[–] CactusEcho@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

If you don't know, sunnis consider shias to be heretic and both saudi and iran use the religion as a way to increase influence since they are the main centers of their branch. For example in the yemeni civil war, the houthis are shias and the official government is sunni. Guess which country is supporting which faction? Iran supports houthis, and Saudi supports the government.

The same can be said from the Suria's civil war and from iraq's current state.

Regarding hezbollah, a quick search https://www.washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/iranian-and-hezbollah-threats-saudi-arabia-past-precedents

I'm sorry, but I'm having difficulty mustering up some fucks to give about "the kingdom's" woes.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not to mention most of those woes are of their own making.

At least the 2034 World Cup might actually need to be cancelled or moved to another place.

[–] inari@piefed.zip 13 points 1 day ago

That would be a nice outcome
