Even if they actually pull it off, shouldn't we want to optimize regardless of any shortages?
For the end users, yeah, it would be a fairly high priority. But Microsoft doesn't have to pay for your hardware, so unless it's genuinely a problem that loses them lots of customers, they don't care.
Well, optimization takes dev time. You can use dev time for other things too
debugging, improving performance on systems with enough memory, adding features, improving security. Or not use the dev time and cost less. So it's a tradeoff.
