I started out as Ensign Aggravated and rose through the ranks.

[–] Assman@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 years ago

Because I'm the assman

[–] QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well, obviously Quentin Callaghan isn't my real name. I got this from some online American name generator.

[–] PinkyCoyote@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 years ago

[–] PinkyCoyote@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 years ago

[–] KISSmyOS@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

I use Arch, by the way.

[–] Justas@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago

That is literally my name. I was never first with that name on any internet service thing so it was a novelty to name myself that.

[–] octoperson@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I had the intention of dropping in on those 'is it octopodes or octopuses' debates with 'um, actually it's octopeople'. Only I got tired of the joke after the 2nd or 3rd time so there you go.

[–] PinkyCoyote@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ive had that convo on my main lol

[–] octoperson@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

It's the great debate of our times

I randomly created it about 25yrs. ago when I was first hanging out on message boards, and I just stuck with it.

[–] Steveanonymous@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Wanted to be as unknown as possible on gamefaqs lue board 20 years ago and i have kept it ever since

[–] PinkyCoyote@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So steve isnt your real name!

[–] Steveanonymous@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Not even close lol

[–] apotheotic@beehaw.org 4 points 2 years ago

My favourite track from the Journey OST by Austin Wintory was titled 'Apotheosis' and I wanted to understand its meaning. I adopted this username as a nod of respect to the game and its soundtrack because of its profound impact on my life.

[–] DerArzt@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Because I like Doctor Who, and it's just wrong enough in German that it's never really taken by anyone.

[–] Vengefu1Tuna@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The thought of it was funny to me.

[–] herrvogel@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm a male of Cajun decent who likes tea and gravy.

[–] i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk 3 points 2 years ago

It was my only non-bot account on this instance which only existed to create communities. My main account's instance closed down so I made this my main.

I haven't posted in !totallynotrobots@lemmy.world which I really should do as it's the perfect username for that community.

[–] tetrachromacy@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Because I'm a god in a photon. I am omnipresent for thee. 🐊✨

[–] siipale@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My username is a portmanteau of words siivu and viipale which are two different types of slices. I'm not sure if English differentiates these two types of slices but siipale is something between those two or both at the same time.

Anyway, in addition to being an interesting portmanteau my username sounds similar to sopuli so it's a perfect fit for Lemmy.

[–] SirTenTea@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Because I'm certain I'm a Ten and what's not to like about tea? But really, all caffeine is good caffeine, and only my partner is giving me a ten on a really good day!

[–] burgersc12@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

[–] AnalogyAddict@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I am a person that refuses to contain my emotions while gathering entertainment and culture.

[–] Tolstoy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

[–] Tolstoy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Sadly not. But hey, it makes me look kinda smart and russian... I can't even read russian xD

[–] PinkyCoyote@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 years ago

Tolstoy is worth reading even translated. I can't speak russian either but nabokov and tolstoy are top 5 writers for me

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Made up the name Pronell Mordini for a MUD called Kaspelheim back in 1994. The game didn't last long but I've used it online since then.

[–] Rouxibeau@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Best I can do is imprison your soul on a planet name dirt. I named my kid after good-ol' hourglass eyes.

My original gamer tag on Xbox was gameknight named after the Minecraft book series then when I moved to pc the name stuck around for a little bit on steam and eventually I wanted a silly placeholder name so it was SeΓ±orFlipFlop.

Well the most temporary fixes are often the most permanent solutions and with the exception of discord all my usernames now are some variation of flip flop with my gta rockstar name being Flippy-Flopp and planet side being FL1P1E5FL0P
