Wil it be possible to use the same client for Lemmy as for Mastodon? They speak the same protocol so it should not be extremely hard to port such client, right?

As I understand it, you don’t even need anything porting. You can just search for the community like a user, e.g. @asklemmy@lemmy.world and it’ll show the community. Whether the posts show I think depends on the instance and whether they sync older posts.

Yeah tried that but unfortunately it does not understand what a Lemmy post is. It only shows comments

Ah, fair enough. I guess it’s a different media type, should be fairly easy to support, although whether they will or not 🤷‍♀️

I don't know if it works well from mastodon because of the way timelines are displayed, but kbin allows viewing both mastodon posts and Lemmy posts, so that might be a good alternative. That being said, there isn't an app and their federation is broken because the servers are overloaded.

Are all their servers overloaded or just kbin.social?

Kbin.social and lemmy.ml seem to both be pretty overloaded rn, lemmy.ml paused registrations the other day and kbin.social is only just starting to re-enable federation but afaik every other instance is working normally
