It's mostly true.

One woman did get paid leave for homosexuality because of its classification as an illness. So that's still pretty great. And there were people calling in to get off work for homosexuality, it just wasn't the main form of the protest.

It also only took a few dozen people showing up at the national board of health and welfare to remove the classification of homosexuality as an illness within 6 months.

It was actually ended by LGBTQ activists occupying the swedish national board of health and welfare. The myth even comes from activists calling in sick to attend the occupation.

A few people did call in sick, in August 1979. One even got it approved and received sick benefits. But it wasn't the main part of the protest.
