Wait until OP realizes that Halloween is equaly pushed by capitalism 🫠

[–] vale@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Equally" is not a word I'd use. It's not pushed nearly as much as Christmas is

I’ve never seen a Spirit Christmas store.

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've seen dedicated Christmas stores before, and you're ignoring how every store becomes a Christmas store after Thanksgiving.

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Name your Christmas store instead of making one up I can’t argue with imaginary businesses

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Name your Christmas store

gestures broadly

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Typical Christmascell can’t name a single Christmas store.

[–] SuckMyWang@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

The gestures broadly is more of a take your pick it’s not a trick question kind of answer. If you need to know the names of some random stores I’ll pick some. Walmart, Costco, target, home depot. These were selected at random from a top 10 retailer list. Now I think what this person was saying is that these all become Christmas stores during this period of the year. Yes they still sell other things but there probably isn’t enough Christmas things to dedicate to that size of a store. So they make 20% of it Christmas crap and keep selling the other crap because they know it’s profitable. They do the same for Halloween but probably to a lesser extent

You still get pop up Christmas stores as well. They're not a chain or anything just privately owned stores where they lease out an unused shop for a month or two just to peddle allsorts of Christmas stuff from it

How many Halloween movies are there? How many Christmas movies?

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Halloween has 13 movies. There isn’t a single movie just called “Christmas”.

I’ll take my Nobel Prize via mail.

[–] SuckMyWang@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It would be a good title for a movie about christmas

[–] seitanic 11 points 2 years ago

On Halloween, they push candy and costumes. On Christmas, they push everything.

[–] irmoz@reddthat.com 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Nowhere near equally. "Halloween music" is much rarer, and doesn't get blasted in shops and on the radio 24/7 for a month. "Halloween films" are also barely a thing, and horror films don't count.

[–] vale@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

a month if you're lucky. they started blasting it a week into November where I work. I'm so tired of hearing the same songs over and over again, and the 6 different covers of "All I Want For Christmas Is You"

[–] YaksDC@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I don't own a car and had to drive one today. It was like radio station roulette to try and not hear Christmas music.

[–] Caboose12000@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I'm at the point where I spend so much time being bitter about Christmas music being played too early that when December finally rolls around things start feeling surreal when I can't whinge about it anymore.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 2 points 2 years ago

In the UK it shouldn't happen before Remembrance Sunday

[–] tubaruco@lemm.ee -1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

us communists have no holidays

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

May Day. What are you even talking about?

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] tubaruco@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

the message of the meme can be understood as "communist have no christmas music", so i exagerated and, as a joke, said communists have no holidays.

[–] trashxeos@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 years ago

Communists do have Christmas music though.../s
