Dec 9, 2023 - SeL

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts 28mm Declaration Grooming B13
  • Razor: Karve Shaving Co. Overlander
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Green) [8]
  • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Son et Lumiere - Soap
  • Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Son et Lumiere - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Declaration Grooming - Son et Lumiere - Eau de Parfum

SeL is such a well crafted scent. It's going to be a cold, rainy day in the city, so it seemed appropriate.

Rating: 4.5/5

Been rocking this setup for awhile now it’s so good. I’ve got to work in some of my other Christmas Soaps while it’s still seasonally appropriate.

Vespers++;

Far too good to be just a Christmas soap :)

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
  • Blade: Gillette Stainless (2)
  • Lather: Oaken Lab - Far Afield - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Hamami - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Liniment

Another nice shave.

How was the pairing between Far Afield and Hamami? Hamami and Cerberus are great, but I haven't tried Far Afield.

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 year ago

It worked pretty well, actually. Cerberus was a departure from both of those scents, but it's the only Liniment that I have.

Fleur de France

  • Brush: Dogclaration LG 2022 Mystery Brush (B16)
  • Razor: Böker S.S. Paris Wins
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Fleur de France
  • Aftershave: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Fleur de France
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Fleur de France

Wonderful morning shave, yet again with 20.1. I enjoyed my series of Seaforth! shaves (Sorry SSL, you felt too summery this time around) this week.

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

When did this Böker show up in your collection? Is it a new addition?

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

I bought a bit over a year ago, but I only honed it during this year's TabOktoberfest, and wrote this little write-up because I think it's an interesting razor.

I then promptly busted its pristine scales and luckily, Ralf Aust makes scales of almost the same size and shape. I posted the rescale operation here.

It's just a regular square point German hollow ground, but I enjoy it more than most of my other straights

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

I commented on both posts, so as you can see, my memory is like Swiss cheese ;-) The French point 6/8 Böker with the abalone scales is the one I remember.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

I'm sure you'd have remembered it if the pic showed had a closeup of the ship :)

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

That’s very gracious of you. I’m sticking with the Swiss cheese analogy. My memory is good where there aren’t holes :)

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

Sticking to the analogy, then. Most Swiss cheeses don't have holes, so there's that😄

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

Most Swiss cheeses don’t have holes, so there’s that😄

You need to factor in the American POV 😉

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago

Oh, I'm familiar with the expression, I'm just being everyone's favourite: a know-it-all 😅

It took me a few uses to appreciate it, and now I can't remember why I didn't like it at first.

December 9, 2023: Rinse and Repeat

  • Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
  • Brush: Semogue C3 Galahad Horse 🐎
  • Razor: Merkur 34C
  • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (38)
  • Lather: Cella Aloe Vera
  • Post Shave: Mennen Skin Bracer
  • Post Shave: Nivea After Shave Balm
  • Fragrance: Rogue Perfumery Mon Bon Monsieur

Yesterday's shave was so good, I had to do it again. It helped that the combo 34C + old blade left me with the impression that I should do it today. The Cella has a really nice scent - unfortunately a very discreet one, that I get noseblind to very fast.

I had ordered a few perfume decants, mainly from Rogue Perfumery. Mon Bon Monsieur smells generically good, and very clean. On Fragrantica, someone described it as a mall perfume from the 80s. That's not completely false, but also not a bad thing.

Have a good night!

December 9, 2023

  • Brush: Wald Stratos Goldvein 29mm A1 Fan

  • Razor: Tanifuji Spalding 0411 6/8" Full Hollow

  • Lather: Murphy and McNeil - Barbershop de Los Muertos 3 - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lemon - Toner

  • Aftershave: Murphy and McNeil - Barbershop de Los Muertos 3 - Aftershave

  • Talc: Yardley Gold

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I'm revisiting the Murphy & McNeil Kodiak base with this shave. Before leaving on my trip, I used The Great Bear (also Kodiak) and could not get a lather to build. I don't use these soaps that frequently so I was concerned that there might be a shelf life with this base. I had no problems today with BDLM 3 so I'll need to revisit The Great Bear to see if I just had a bad day.

The Kodiak soap base is quite nice. It features bear tallow as well as skin food additives for post-shave feel. I think this is one of those bases that takes a little time and work to get right. I load it heavily and end up adding a lot of water. The result is a high-density lather that, somehow, has a very light feel.

Great shave today!
