He did all of this during the last day of a conference.

So rather than inspiring the WordPress community to push forward and do good things, he spent an hour just antagonizing and shaming companies that literally sponsored the conference.

This is like when Elon Musk cursed out advertisers on Twitter.

If this was just a battle about a big company going after open-source branding, it's pretty easy to see the sides. But this is a guy who ripped into a competitor (which btw, has sponsored MANY WordPress conferences and provided tooling/fund for things outside of WordPress core) and fractured the community significantly.

Honestly I don't GAF about WPengine. But Matt makes money off of WordPress too. And his actions led to 1/10 of his company quitting.

I'm pissed that as a open-source developer, Matt has pulled the non-profit open-source project into this mess, when he owns a FOR-PROFIT company that would benefit from WPEngine failing.

Matt needs to step down. WordPress as a open-source project needs to be in the hands of people who want to drive the mission forward in a non-sleazy way.

The comparison with Android and Google, I'd argue it's worse on android.

You can absolutely host your own open-source WordPress, and get plugins and core features using a mirrored server. It's a bit harder, but if you're anti-Matt, then you're technically competent already to do this. And the experience is pretty straightforward.

For Android development, many features that are really nice-to-haves require Google services. Yes, there are workarounds. But it's reinventing the wheel, creating your own systems, and can be a inconsistent experience for users.

Btw, I'm on the "Fuck Matt" train, because as a open-source contributors, he's making devs lives harder with his meltdown. But I also giving double middle fingers to WP Engine.

I don't think so. It's been making the tech waves for the past year. As a multinational, my company went department by department, ensuring we clean up and remove anything potentially connected to Russia. I'm guessing it's never been newsworthy enough for the average person.

This was in 2016. But there was a indie game from a small dev in a European country that allowed backers to name NPCs, and there were some racist names. I called that out in my review, and the Dev went, "It's not racist here in my country."

That led to a back and forth on the Steam forum which I got banned. Then I shared it on Reddit, but was stupid to use the same steam name as my twitter name and got a lot of toxic shit.

I changed my steam name and tossed my twitter account, so no idea what happened, nor do I remember the game.

No one answered it in the comments but is this saying the dog is 45? Like in human years?

Seriously.

1 website that forwards data to all the social media platforms.

I went to a AI conference and you can just sense how bogus it all feels. Like "Our patent pending AI system references billions of crowd-sourced data points to identify what you are craving for breakfast! Never think about breakfast again!"

And as a engineer speaking with other engineers, we all collectively shrug and just keep taking the money. I'll AI your toaster for enough money IDGAF.

To this day, I still can't believe how long Reddit defended underage porn subreddits. Literally do nothing and say "free speech" . Then suddenly a news article happens and then they finally take action.

(White House does anything)

This person: Why are they interfering with the election?!

Not really what Valve did. Valve kept doing cool things that benefit the customer, while the competition actively drove them away.

I don't follow social media. Is BlueSky feature rich and only getting better?

The video posted by Cavender claims that deputies were dispatched to "speed" through Cobb County to respond to Sheriff Owens' issue at a nearby Burger King. The video appears to depict the deputies running red lights and using their sirens.

When deputies arrived at the fast food restaurant, the sheriff leaned out of the driver's side window and spoke to a recording deputy.

"Hey, do me a favor," Sheriff Owens said. "I need to get- all I need is the owner's name of whoever owns this damn facility, or the manager."

The sheriff explained how he was given an incorrect order by a Burger King employee, asked for it to be replaced, and was denied.

Abravnel's pictures show two bearded men wearing sunglasses and three other men wearing face coverings on board the boat. One of the men on board appeared to be holding an image of Mike Lindell, CEO of the My Pillow company. Lindell, who is a well-known Trump supporter, recently hit back against claims that his product pricing was inadvertently linked to neo-Nazi propaganda.

The victim, G.H., is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse who met Officer Rodney Vicknair of the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) in May 2020 when she was just 14 years old, according to a copy of the lawsuit filed in a Louisiana federal court by her mother and obtained by Inside Edition Digital.

At the time, Vicknair had been dispatched to the scene of a sexual assault and took G.H. to a local children’s hospital so a rape kit could be performed, according to the suit.

Soon after the second rape Vicknair was arrested and later confessed to raping G.H. He died in prison earlier this year from a brain tumor, having served less than a year of his 14-year sentence.

A war has been raging in the WordPress ecosystem for the past two weeks. In a latest development, employees are leaving the feisty WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg, who is dividing the WordPress community. An eighth of his own staff do not seem to share his position. It's about demands in the millions, blackmail, "nuclear options" and, in a very big way, defending the future of open source against profit-oriented corporate giants.

A new report says Unity is cutting around 1,800 jobs, or about 25 percent of the its employees, according to a regulatory filing and internal company memo obtained by Reuters on Monday.

This is reportedly the largest round of layoffs in the software company’s history—far larger than what happened in November of last year—and it will be completed by the end of March. Unity has gone through three prior rounds of layoffs within the last 12 months.

“We are … reducing the number of things we are doing in order to focus on our core business and drive our long-term success and profitability,” interim CEO Jim Whitehurst wrote in an internal memo obtained by Reuters. The memo was sent to all Unity employees on January 8.
