Me not doing the midterm exam due on Sunday ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Rookie numbers! I unironically use 7 pillows. 3 for the head, 1 for my back (so I can sleep on my side and lean against the wall), 1 between my legs, and 2 to sandwich my feet into.

It's time to remind Congress that they work for the people

They do? Like I get that's the pretext for why we remain their subjects, but do we really believe they will ever work for us? The only people I remember them ever "working for" are white landowners.

Actually, most people just can't afford to leave

Yeah that's a better answer. Only reason I can leave the house basically at all is because (1) my parents pay for gas and (2) college is the only place I have to go. But my answer is true too; it sucks because everyone is too poor to leave.

Radio music will be almost entirely AI generated by 2035.

I am faithful that humans will continue to be the primary composers, performers, and tastemakers of music even when AI tools are involved, because music is simply fun to do for people who do it. I know I'm simply not interested in giving up my passion even though an AI could do it, and I think most musicians are with me on that. We do it because it is worth doing.

But as far as radio pop music is concerned, I think that listeners will eventually be conditioned to prefer "better than real" (but really more polished than real life) music, just like we have with modern record production, particularly auto-tune, drum sample replacement/augmentation, vocaloids, virtual analog plugin software, compression and saturation, and sample-based electronic music. And once that happens, it'll be cheaper and more predictable to ask an AI to spit out a song than to pay human producers to do it.

America sucks so bad that I'd literally rather not leave my house

The point of a protest is not to rationally convince the rulers to change. By the time a protest occurs, the "rational" and "legitimate" options have been exhausted. Protests are a show of power by subjects to their rulers, and a threat that more serious consequences will follow if nothing changes. The fact that a mass of people have assembled and are taking action at all is sufficient for a protest to be effective IMO.

So I don't think "basic" slogans make protests less effective so long as they don't oversimplify the demands of the protesters. Similarly, creative slogans can definitely help protests be more effective if they sharpen the message they intend to deliver.

Dividing fascists and anti-fascists is the good type of division

I really wanted to post this on !traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns@hexbear.net but I'm not trans myself and I didn't want to take up their space.

Basically, the devs of Lemmy are looking to make upvotes public to everyone. Right now, I believe voter identities are known to server admins and mods.

I don't have a strong opinion on this myself, either for or against, as I write this comment, but I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing, frankly as a cishet dude.

But also... I've kinda lost trust in Nutomic making decisions about the software that won't make things worse for trans people since his comments on the Olympics were made public. Dessalines has (so far) at least tolerated Nutomic's transphobia despite whatever prior rhetoric. Frankly, I am suspicious that trans people don't matter to the Lemmy dev team...to be charitable...so I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

An Anarchist FAQ (anarchistfaq.org)

A reminder for the liberals who seem to be finding this space and spamming us with "gotchas" like anarchist spaces having rules or anarchists talking about banning stuff.

These questions have already been answered hundreds of times and debating each and every one of you individually is simply too much work and just not very fun.

Note that anarchists are not a monolith and nothing here is set in stone, but IMO it's a pretty well-researched guide for contemporary anarchist thought.

In all seriousness, Joe Biden has ended his campaign for reelection. He has not stepped down as President ๐Ÿคž.

I'm autistic. This problem shows up for me all over the place, to the point that I typically don't recommend reading anymore except when strictly necessary. However, it is showing up now because I'm working with people on a project (and generally everyone I have worked with at school so far) who will not read, particularly documentation for tools and programs, data sheets, and application notes. How do I get people "up to speed" if they refuse to read the things I send them?

Some concepts are simply too complex or too lengthy for me to explain correctly in a real conversation. It's really the fact that nobody seems to want to read in any field of endeavor suggests that it's something wrong with me and how I perceive things.

It's one of those "self-loathing days" so this track is particularly fitting.

My grandmother wants to install Mahjong onto her phone. I couldn't find any results on the Play Store with no ads or in-app purchases. She doesn't understand technology and could get tricked into purchasing stuff or compromising her data.
