I'm only a hobbyist no skin in the game but as an engineer first programmer second I feel like how you design the architecture of your logic and how you choose to prioritize computational optimization or feature implementation have a much bigger impact than language. Obviously theres a time and place like using luajit instead of lua if you really need that speed boost, but in big complex programs I'm willing to bet lazy programmers skip optimization steps and copy paste thousands of lines to ship quickly regardless how performance optimized the underlying language is.

I make a module that does a specific thing for version 1, after initial bug patches and maybe a feature addition theres usually an epithany that the logic can be generalized into an api type registry structure that allows the code to be reused and configured as needed on per item basis. Along the way you do stuff like ask what the not expensive calls are, add accumulator timers to reduce unneeded CPU usage , ensure early returns are up top when it makes sense, choosing to render a cleverly crafted sprite instead of a full 3d entity.

A conditional if then logic loop Is a logic loop no matter what Turing complete language its written in. What really matters is how you use the loop not which syntax its written in.

I am a kobo user (libra 2). IMO you should get one with more ram (likely boox). My kobo side loaded with koreader software will sometimes crash reset due to out of memory errors especially with high res PDF/cbz graphic novels. Also Kobo lacks proper web browser what it has is super barebones webkit browser(sometimes reading text based webpages on eink is nice)

From what I understand boox is android based so theres less headache installing what you want.

Money, duh. You build up a following, repost some obviously fake CGI crap, at the end of the video plug your donation links like subscribe bell, and they eat it up. Mentally unwell people have a tenuous grasp on reality and more often than not believe whatever they want. Tell them what they already want to hear and your pockets can be easily lined. Also see religious cults and Bigfooters.

For a real example take oldie but goodie secureteam10. The guys been reposting fake footage for a decade. They've been in multiple controversies and proven to have created fake evidence for some of their own videos.

Yet despite the channels history and sketchyness, they still get hundreds of thousands of views a week. Because the UFO truther types simply do not care about real authenticity they just want a confirmation bias circle jerk. Read the comments in some of secureteam10s videos and you'll understand the exact lack of sanity or intelligence in these communities.

Good documentary on them:

They've been making that push for a while now with all the chatbot integration. Good thing LibreWolf and IronFox are here

Yes theres absolutely tools to convert mc worlds to minetest/luanti worlds. using these tools probably requires some willingness to run terminal based shell commands though.

Have you been keeping tabs on the mineclone projects these past few years? Mineclonia and voxelibre are both excellent Foss alternatives. Most people would struggle to be able to identify MCLA with a MC texture pack as any different from real deal.

Captain Waynes soundtrack is peak me maties

I found a real old youtube channel and this was one of the clips they uploaded 16 years ago. Entertainment truly hit different back then.

Television and Radio are 75% advertisement.

Most of my favorite youtubers from 2010s are gone replaced with nonstop politics, drama, reaction, and streaming content farming.

I feel it in my heart that short form content is damaging everyones attention spans especially my tablet ridden younger family members.

Weekend trips to Blockbusters to rent out a game and movie is gone.

When I go into the search bar on YouTube I see stuff literally called "brain break" and "brain rot".

I switch on the news and its 90% pure political propagandano matter the station.

Even the memes suck now, say what you want about caption memes and dancing babies and troll face, Pepe, me gusta but that shit was at least comprehensible in humor. go on 67 Wikipedia and it literally says "It has no fixed meaning."

Even the steam store just feels different now. Its full of gooner porn bait visual novels and mundane activity sims and 1 season relevant fps shooters.

All the stuff I enjoyed is gone, and everything they make now seems so empty and pessimistic now. The last bastion of enjoyment zi have is older media and indie made stuff by a few select artist/small teams . Is this just me getting old yelling at clouds, or is something wrong?

I like to think that its a subconscious offshoot of the "why was six afraid of 7? Because 7 8 9" joke for the modern generation showcasing how the current short attention span brain rot humor contrast against previous with all punchline and no buildup.

What does it mean for a person to be somewhere in life? Are you asking what I do, if I'm content with my upbringing, the success of my adulthood, if I'm enjoying the day, or all of the above? I hate the imprecision and ambiguity of language sometimes.

I exist. I am here. The retinas in my eyeballs are encoding the information relayed in your post, and my barely sentient ape brain is firing off a complex series of neurons to search through the space of all possible things I could say in response to give you this message. The statistical likelyhood of this mundane event is miraculously small considering all the myriad of possible divergent paths with small changes in which we either dont exist or never interact in a social media post.

It just snowed and I enjoyed the change in scenery. Another pang of craving for pot or alcohol to stave off yet another boring empty day.

Is existing an accomplishment on its own? Does being somewhere in life currently at least mean I didnt give up on life long ago when I could have? Is struggle and enduring through an unoptimal existance somehow meaningful? Sometimes I feel like its not, when I'm at my most self-loathing and angsty. But other times I feel like I made a change in other peoples lives for the better.

What does it mean to accomplish something? To make it in life? To be somewhere good? Should everyone strive for a family, a good stable career with lots of money, a community that cares about them? Should I want a big house I can't afford, kids, a loving partner? If I don't have these things, am I a loser? What if I just want to live in a van or a houseboat or a cabin in the woods as a hermit? Would my life be inherently less meaningful than a wealthy familymans?

No. To ask that line of question is a category error. Life has no objective place to be in. There is no end goal or win message after you make a kagillion dollars or pop out 12 kids and 5 exes. The only thing I think that matters is how satisfied and if you had fun. Im grateful to still have time to make my plays and feel like I can be/do more than I am now. But I am anxious that I won't capitalize on my future, and will stagnate as I tend to do. I wonder how many others share these worries? It seems like so many so easily achieved what I always wanted, but they somehow aren't satisfied.

I show love to my parents despite the pain caused throughout life, and can rest easy knowing I played a large hand in giving children in need a second chance/home. I do my best to be a better person than I was yesterday. I'm not a wealthy or well accomplished person, but I'm young, smart with technology, and relatively well educated. Physically many people have done more with traditional lifestyle choices which a i envy. Mentally ive reached places of knowledge and understanding only a few have the privlege to glimpsing. I believe people will always want the things they dont have and downplay what they do. I try to be grateful just to be here and exist as I do. If there is a place to be, whos to say of where it is.

I'm not sure if this counts as enail but similar I think. For concentrate I love the dynavap helix and electric induction heater setup. Really tasty hits, easy to clean/maintain, USBC/DC charging, and not a fire hazard like ball vapes with big pid power supplies and injectors can be.

You can get a concentrate coil, or vape wool, or just line it on the side of metal walls and aim tip down as you hit so liquid doesnt pool at screen

Its winter where I live and winter means cold. Currently its below freezing outside. My offgrid heating is limited to the point I have to sometimes layer up to be comfortable.

I discovered a technique that helps me out a lot this season. A 12v car blanket wraped around your shoulders like a poncho and then put a heavy coat layer. Its a really effective way to insulate both yourself and the blanket.

You might be wondering why a 12v blanket instead of a house electric blanket. For offgrid power a 12v blanket is much easier on limited battery systems. Also, 12v blankets dont have 8 hour safety shutoffs they stay on forever.

In the picture is my polar grade Baffin booties most comfortable Cold weather slippies you can get I hightly recommend if you get cold feet.

The only other tip I have is good layering. Wool socks, multiple thermal underwear layers, hat and gloves. Each piece of clothing added helps even out the difference. Electric just amplifies h effect and makes it so you don't need as much.

Put thermally insulated blanketing on your furniture. Wool blankets are good and duvet type puffy blankets are useful. Consider making an insulated hot table.

I got into the self-hosting scene this year when I wanted to start up my own website run on old recycled thinkpad. A lot of time was spent learning about ufw, reverse proxies, header security hardening, fail2ban.

Despite all that I still had a problem with bots knocking on my ports spamming my logs. I tried some hackery getting fail2ban to read caddy logs but that didnt work for me. I nearly considered giving up and going with cloudflare like half the internet does. But my stubbornness for open source self hosting and the recent cloudflare outages this year have encouraged trying alternatives.

Coinciding with that has been an increase in exposure to seeing this thing in the places I frequent like codeberg. This is Anubis, a proxy type firewall that forces the browser client to do a proof-of-work security check and some other nice clever things to stop bots from knocking. I got interested and started thinking about beefing up security.

I'm here to tell you to try it if you have a public facing site and want to break away from cloudflare It was VERY easy to install and configure with caddyfile on a debian distro with systemctl. In an hour its filtered multiple bots and so far it seems the knocks have slowed down.

https://anubis.techaro.lol/

My botspam woes have seemingly been seriously mitigated if not completely eradicated. I'm very happy with tonights little security upgrade project that took no more than an hour of my time to install and read through documentation. Current chain is caddy reverse proxy -> points to Anubis -> points to services

Good place to start for install is here

i wanted to share some short 5 second clips on a post, i noticed that gifs are too big. What are my options, what file formats doesl lemmy and piefed accept for embeded videos

I got a spore syringe with shrooms of my choice and some uncle bens rice bags a while ago. One guy I watch shows off a super easy method of injecting into the bags and fruiting directly from there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cZe1Og2tro

But then I go on the unclebens reddit and read through shroomscouts guide with dubtubs and putting space heaters with thermostats in a closet and coconut coir mixing with spawn and it starts to make me feel anxious like maybe this isn't for me. I just want some mushrooms man why does this have to be a 20 step process from innoculation to fruiting. And then everyone hypes up contamination like unless you make an air controlled still box its gaurenteed to get contamination, and how the uncle bens ready rice I got is too watery compared to alternatives, and how fruiting from bag is so much less yield than the tub spawning method, and on and on and on. Am I reading too deep into it and should just shove the syringe in and tape over and see what happens? Is it okay if I just go with the first guys method and not worry about the tubs and maintaining water droplets and all that?

Some questions for purely educational purposes:

  1. What are some good sites to buy seeds from? Recommended strains?
  2. what are some good guides on the topic? Anything for absolute beginners?
  3. Whats the cost of equipment look like? What is the absolute bare minimum I would need to get started for indoors growing?
