So Hugo Chávez shouldn't have run for president of Venezuela? While electoralism isn't a magic bullet to achieve socialism, it is indeed one useful tool in the belt.

It will be a struggle, but if Mamdani can deliver positive change for his people, he can turn that into a movement.

My gut feeling is that Trump called off Israel because of pressure from the Gulf states and Pakistan.

Feels like Israel is now doing a propaganda push ("US bombing didn't work", "the uranium is still out there somewhere") to set the stage for more intervention in the near future.

AFAIK Iran said they would stop attacking if Israel stopped attacking, but they didn't officially accept any deal.

Do we have this as a tagline? If not, we should.

I can't help but wonder if part of the point of Trumps alleged attempted rapprochement with Russia is just to buy time and fool Russia again like with the Minsk accords, to prevent Putin from committing to an offensive when Ukraine is most weak and western production can't keep up and keep that conflict burning longer without straining NATO arms production.

I'm actually inclined to believe that it's Putin who is stalling. It's the US who bit off more than they could chew, which is why they are now forcing Europe to hurriedly boost military spending. Because they know Ukraine is headed for capitulation, and a new counterbalance will be needed.

The US needs to pull out of Europe and finish neutralizing the Axis of Resistance before the Pivot to Asia can be fully completed.

It seems like the vast majority of Iran's modern missiles are trapped inside the underground missile bases. Israel is going to keep up their air campaign for the foreseeable future to maintain that status quo.

I don't really see a good solution for Iran unless there are some secret cards they have yet to play. What they need is to be flooded with modern air defenses like Ukraine was. With no ground invasion component, Israel would be forced to stop. But neither Russia nor China seem willing or able to do that.

It sounds like Qatar will directly respond, with "support" from Saudi Arabia. It's such a farce, but whatever.

Iran's Foreign Minister is in Moscow today. It seems kind of ridiculous, but what if Iran joins the Union State and hosts Russian nukes? Per Dmitry Medvedev's implication.

"If someone is worried ... (then) it is very simple: join in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. That's all: there will be nuclear weapons for everyone."

Obviously the big question mark is what this would mean for the war in Ukraine.

Eh, apparently you're not really supposed to do it because it can spread plant disease, but yes.

Been booting up GTA 4 a lot lately just to goof around, and this banger is on The Vibe radio station.

spoilerIn the In Water ending, there is a close-up of James looking defeated, starting the car, and gripping the steering wheel just before it fades to black.

In the Stillness ending, the last thing he does on camera is take a thoughtful look at Mary's letter (the one that tells him to move on with his life). He starts the car off-camera.

There's already a theory based on the audio in the Stillness ending that he gets out of the car and lets it drive itself into the lake with Mary's body. I feel like this difference in camera shots makes it a lot more obvious.
