It started off okay and then wow did it take an abrupt turn.
I like to watch TV shows in the background where I'm not going to be watching the screen obsessively, so I have several shows in 480P or sub-480P. There are also some shows where the "official" HD versions are just awful (most 90s sitcoms) or the show was made for 4:3 and has a different feel converted to 16:9 (MASH, The Wire).
Going beyond that though, I spent years on a really limited connection (2.6m down/400k up) and my instinct for saving bandwidth and storage space is still there, along with my need to pay it forward since I ain't no leech. I've become fond of making what I call "Bonsai Encodes", where the files are small enough to be sent over damn near anything. With mono Opus and VP9 video you can cram 45 minutes of perfectly watchable content into a sub-25mb file that'll play in Discord, with VTT subtitles even (though those won't play in Discord itself). Looks a bit like watching it on an old tube TV, but it's watchable.
Alright, this is one hell of a rollercoaster, far beyond anything I figured would be in play in a dispute over community moderation. And of course, of course it had to involve the guy who is rabidly defensive of Discovery. If anyone wasn't aware, that stance was in part what led to people leaving /r/StarTrek for /r/Star_Trek, the latter quickly turning into a brigading alt-right dumpsterfire that was eventually banned. They can't be blamed for the latter part obviously, but at the same time forcing Trek fans to choose between "no opinions we don't like" and "every opinion is valid including the super racist ones" is a dick move.
Of course the other reason for the schizm was Corgana banning anyone who even remotely questioned them in a stickied post about moderation changes.
Bottom line is that there's a track record of bad behavior from these folks that predates their transition to Lemmy.
Fuck yeah Mosquito Genocide crew!
Sterling and Yahtzee did a few literal road trips together even.
Especially when it's the same ad repeated over and over. You know what drove me to finally sideloading an adblocked YouTube app onto my TV? Getting interrupted every 2-3 minutes for the same Coors ad repeated at least once.

Kbin is a combined implementation of Lemmy and Mastodon that works with both. You can view and post to Lemmy instances via Kbin and vice versa. That said, much like Lemmy it's still being developed, so there are still bugs and inconsistencies that sometimes cause Kbin and Lemmy/Mastodon to not quite communicate with each other properly.
The one thing I've noticed is that Kbin's federation with blahaj specifically is a bit lagged. Posts only show up after a pretty significant delay, usually about an hour. Also I've yet to be able to successfully make a top-level image post from Kbin to any other instance, so that's annoying.
It's nowhere near as bloated as Word but you have many more options than Notepad when it comes to formatting and presentation. It's actually impressive how much you can do within the limits of RTF.
On windows it's Settings > Themes, then click the "Mouse pointers" item. That should bring up the Pointers tab of the Mouse Properties window. Then it's just a matter of getting .ani or .cur versions of the pointers you want.
I imagine Threads is gonna defederate from a lot of instances on their own. Any instance based around NSFW content or which even allows discussion of piracy will be blocked pre-emptively.
It varies a lot from person to person. The only way I was able to learn to swallow pills at first was to deliberately swallow air, like you do if you want to make yourself burp. Head forward? Head back? Both interfered.
