Oh my god I hate that pirate software guy. He started popping up on my youtube and he is the most annoying know it all I have ever seen on there (i'm being dramatic) and his takes are so bad. He is seemingly very pro drm and pro live service games.
BECAUSE HE PUBLISHES THOSE GAMES.
I really can't stand the guy.

I will pirate his games simply out of spite. Won’t even dignify it by launching it
Just a heads up, a lot of his anti-piracy measures in his games are things like using the achievement system in steam to track your progress and stuff like that. So if you pirate them it checks for your achievements for that game, which you are unable to get, and then fucks with your ability to progress in the game.

For real though, I do think some "soul selling" has been metaphorically been performed by such techbro devotees. They really, really want to escape their worldly burdens, escape into some VR waifu paradise (or wake up from the "simulation" that this one supposedly is to them), and otherwise live forever without human limitations and think that selling out to their corporate overlords is the one shot they have at all of that.
the ideological divide in silicon valley is do you want to put your brain in a hentai apk and live forever in a porn vn (age-of-consent researcher libertarian) or do you want to lock physical women into exoskeleton-size anime-girl mechas so your waifu can sire your children and realize the fourteen words with you (thielite vampire fascist)

i saw a short of this guy saying he hates mr robot because apparently the production team stole his code without crediting him to use in one of the episodes, weird story
To be fair, and I fucking hate the guy, they took information from a cryptography write-up about Defcon that included someone's personal phone number, which resulted in the guy getting flooded with calls
Now why the fuck a "security analyst" like Thor didn't think to sanitze his fucking text is another question entirely
This is because he was, despite his mythologizing, not very good at his job. He was a nepo hire, and basically got paid to prank people and call it security testing.
In theory, that can help tighten security, but in reality, it only marginally helps, because (and say it with me) the vast majority of leaks and security breachs are internal, from disgruntled employees, and Blizzard was/is a really, really crappy place to work, something that Thor himself literally acknowledges.
And he says this despite also mythologizing the CEO that much of the bad shit happened under, blaming middle management for 'obscuring the vision', as if CEO's aren't also blood-sucking reptiles more than half the time.
Do you have any details about this? It genuinely sounds interesting.
Most of this stuff is in his YouTube shorts, which is where I first ran into him. He has a lot of cute ferret content, but things just started adding up over the way he presented things and his strange takes. If you have the patience to go through his content, it's all there out in the open. He doesn't obfuscate, he just always has good spin on things, and isn't quite able to put it together when he's fucked something up because he has lived an incredibly charmed life.
I will say, one of the things he said that has always stuck with me is that Blizzard usually makes more money on a single WoW mount drop, than they have for the entire existence of SC2. Which explains why WoW is still garbage despite years of tweaks and overhauls.
Edit: He really loves making diagrams, as if it adds an extra layer of truth to whatever he's saying. Probably convincing to a layman or someone who hasn't worked in corporate America for a long time, but it's just like, 'You aren't saying anything complex, you don't need a diagram for it.'
I remember him diagraming his wage for his "this is why Blizzard needs a union" short and he literally just wrote the numbers he just said.
I think he probably does it for the thumbnails. People are more likely to click if they see an inscrutable diagram. I know I am...

I've only ever seen him promote the Blizzard union, good to know that's basically the only thing he's good on
