Very unlikely outcome, and hopefully not a goal for Ukraine.
Fun thought experiment, but yeah there is no way it ever happens. The simplest reason is that as soon as Ukraine manages to restore full control over its own territory, they will race to join Nato and the EU. Both of which would not accept Ukraine while holding russian land.
That depends on how this ends. If this drags out for a while the people may realized that Ukraine is a better government and demand not to go back to Russia. Seems unlikely, but strange things happen.
But after the referendum it’s Ukrainian land.
Nah there's a bunch of laws about that. In fact, in general, quickly seizing land then immediately joining the big group of allies working at not getting into any fights is frowned upon by the guys who don't wanna get into fights.
Contested territory has a bunch of rules and regulations all its own. Russia sucks, but them's the rules.
agree, but could they let that area form its own new nation as a buffer state?
You mean like when divorced parents agree not to fight around their child? I don't see what could go wrong.
but it would be pretty funny
