For instance he talked about how America can never produce a cowichan sweater because all real cowichans are made with a specific process and specific material by a specific indigenous group in Canada. They also cost a fuck ton and owning a cowichan sweater is a strong cultural indicator of your beliefs and means.

I can see his worldview extending to a steadfast belief that the expensive French bag, while overpriced, is only authentic if made by French artisans in France. He's not saying that Chinese people can't make an exact copy of a Birkin, he's doubting that this viral Chinese dude is actually making Birkins and not just taking advantage of the current economic situation, since he doesn't compare his bags to "authentic" Hermes at any point or show his artisans producing the components.

The "cultural roots" of Hermes is making overpriced luxury goods for colonizers. Comparing making a ridiculously overpriced handbag for a literal member of the British aristocracy to carry her things on her first class flights between Paris and London to actual cultural art like cowichan sweaters is absurd.

France has tons of actual traditional cultural clothing and crafts, a $40k generic looking leather bag from the '80s isn't one of them.
