To him, the US drive towards war can in fact present “a major opportunity to start building, not just with ourselves in Hawai’i, but also with our Pacific comrades, neighbors, and cousins, to start fighting back.”

According to Wikipedia the original one back in 1890s became the Home Rule Party in 1900, which would then merge into the Republican party in 1912

Yeah that's basically how I remember it. I also remember a Russian revolutionary being involved at one point.
