Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

What a joke. All the evidence is tainted without a good chain of custody and they absolutely wrecked theirs to set this kid up as a fall-guy. Textbook police planting of evidence. The gun most of all. Unless they have his prints on it or can ballistically tie it to the adjustment act and prove he owned it previously it should be excluded.

Personally I maintain if Luigi did it (and to be clear I think he's a fall guy because he and I were eating at a restaurant that day in LA) they had to have used illegal NSA surveillance not approved for domestic use to catch him. The McDonalds caller thing is a parallel construction BS move and the alleged caller employee is probably a cop informant asked to do it by the cops over the phone perhaps even after the fact. They gleefully trampled over the law and rights in order to catch a killer of one of capitals most important servants and make an example of someone to dissuade copycats.

And here's the thing there was no reason to suspect the killer was a threat to society writ large so there's no excuse for their wild cowboy behavior in the arrest and not doing it much more carefully and methodically except to send a message and/or frame an innocent guy.

His becoming a folk hero really set the stage for public acceptance of his guilt. Which is bad and not even the more fun way of thinking. If he's a patsy, that's awful, but it does mean The Adjuster is still out there

[–] AF_R@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Although it does unlock an even funnier timeline where it fucking happens again

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They jail my boi and everyone goes "No, I'm Spartacus" and adjusts a CEO of their own 👏🏾🥹

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

we really missed our shot for a quick copycat

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 28 points 2 days ago (5 children)

wow youse guys, ya think maybe adventurism DOES work if the hogs are willing to go through so much to dissuade it

[–] DornerStan@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 16 hours ago

Adventurism would be an undisciplined, non-tactical action by a revolutionary person or party, which doesn't have the support of the masses and/or is too far advanced from the consciousness of the masses.

Luigi is a member of the masses and represents their revolutionary potential.

If a lone Marxist or anarchist were to try to replicate his actions without the backing of a party and a specific purpose, that would be adventurism. But Marxists should be analyzing such outbursts of energy from the masses as gauges for revolutionary potential, not as tactical errors.

It's not that it works systemically. It's that the capitalists have an inherent interest in 1) not being randomly killed by someone trying to change the system and 2) it's more the broader pattern of thinking that's a problem, liberalism has everyone convinced non-violence is the only acceptable way for change. The moment you break out of that paradigm the risk isn't more random lone wolf killings, the real risk is people contemplating violent structural change. So the panic is about stopping people from seeing violence as a way to enact solutions to their problems and the desire is getting them back into the voting booth and so on.

The moment you break out of that paradigm the risk isn't more random lone wolf killings, the real risk is people contemplating violent structural change.

Which, love it or hate it, was a major goal behind propaganda of the deed. So admitting that these adventurist acts do have that effect is an admission that adventurism does work, or at least that it does have a role to play in actual systemic change.

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Adventurism is a natural occurrence under sharpening contradictions, it's not whether it is good or bad, that is like judging the morality of a lightning strike. But energy is energy and just as lightning is a violent discharge of atmospheric energy, which we observed and harnessed in the form of electricity, so too must we find effective ways to conduct and channel such energy building in the masses toward organized and productive and ultimately revolutionary ends.

or they would vastly expand FBI powers/make a new super FBI

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

and 2) it's more the broader pattern of thinking that's a problem, liberalism has everyone convinced non-violence is the only acceptable way for change

This is incredibly important.

Revolution literally can not happen unless people believe in and side with the use of violence. Actions that are effective in changing that (which Luigi has certainly proven to be) are bringing about one of the prerequisites necessary for revolution.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

wow it sounds like it works to me

Their barbarous pack of lone wolf adventurists versus our noble mass line vanguard

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

If the adjuster kills one on the day of sentencing, this will be perfect.

[–] ByteFoolish@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They also thought decapitation strikes in Iran would work

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And as we all know the West has no opinion which is not some form of projection... interesting....

[–] ByteFoolish@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

Exactly my point that they're consistent and wrong

[–] PleasantPeasant@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

i think they want to dissuade people from it because they are craven cowards who already live in fear of icky nasty poor people in general, one of them getting uppitty and shooting them is like top 3 fears for them probably, below only the stock market* going down and china, but i dont think they actually think revolution was meaningfully moved forward like this

*more specifically the stocks they own
