Don't really know anywhere else to share this so here goes nothing. Context for the screenshot: this is a StS1 callback boss with three phases. On phase 3, every other turn your attack can only deal 1 damage each... which is not a problem if you hit more times than the boss has HP for, as I played a card that hits 8 damage for 44 times

I actually was a bit scared by all the hype when the game released & delayed a bit before buying... game has been quite fun. Total play time: 42.8 hrs as of reaching A10 with The Silent. Still haven't heavily worked on the other characters though but I will

Apparently a lot of the Chinese playerbase started review-bombing the game just when I started playing, because the devs nerfed a few of the on-launch combo pieces

Also fun fact! The StS devs used Godot for this game, as well as one of their former gamejam minigames that I played. Massive respects for them for this

Thoughts on the game:

  • I like that the devs integrated a bunch of cool mechanics from different StS1 mods, a big one being card modifications. Really looking forward to what the full release will offer
  • Somehow this game shifted from offense-focus to defense-focus
  • "They couldn't nerf Watcher so they just killed her off screen lol"
  • Somehow Silent went from the worst to the best character, because she has good defensive tools...? Also, both of the shivs and the discard archetypes got buffed massively
  • Ironclad got nerfed hard since there aren't a lot of good blocking options especially in Act 1... and the main HP recovery card, Reaper, got moved to an event pool only

Ask me anything!

In general: I like combos that involve playing a ridiculous amount of cards so... yeah. Thankfully only two Act 2 encounters punish this playstyle

  • Ironclad: I once built a "Thrash" + "Howl from Beyond" combo deck, which was absolutely hilarious! Howl from Beyond un-exhausts itself (while doing big number AOE), and the big damage numbers buff Thrash a lot, then use draw engines to replay Thrash
  • Silent: shivs, just shivs. Fan of Knives is quite funny
  • Defect: "Voltaic+", one card combo that does... everything, and has crazy scaling. I think this card has to be nerfed though, since it is way too strong; maybe instead make it cost 2 & exhaust or something
  • Necrobinder: "Souls" deck, draw a gazillion cards & finish off with "Death March" or "Soul Storm". This is actually reminiscent of the Jockey booster pack from the Packmaster mod in StS1, which is one of my favorite modded contents in StS1
  • Regent: "Decisions, Decisions" + "Royal Gamble" is insane, then hopefully having 27 star energy would be enough to finish off the encounter

Voltaic is a difficult card to balance, on low ascension it's just a one card damage solve for the entire game, but on higher ascensions it's borderline unpickable. Having a 3 energy card that basically does nothing the first 2 times it's drawn will get you chipped down by hallway fights a lot of the times.
