Daaang, congratz! I have 17 hours in Slay the Spire 1 and couldn't even beat it one time. :(

Keep going! I don't think I really cleared the game until like 40-50 hrs in... Roguelikes are brutal, and StS is not easy even by roguelike standards
I probably will. I think I kinda got mad because my mate got through it in like 6 hours. :D
It takes a bit of getting into. I went back to it after Balatro and somehow started to get it then, even though the two are not actually that similar.
That's it?

Congrats, I love me a good Silent shiv deck. I've been enjoying playing on Ascension 1, but I also don't care to challenge the game just yet.
What are your favorite combos with each of the characters? There are so many good ones!
In general: I like combos that involve playing a ridiculous amount of cards so... yeah. Thankfully only two Act 2 encounters punish this playstyle
- Ironclad: I once built a "Thrash" + "Howl from Beyond" combo deck, which was absolutely hilarious! Howl from Beyond un-exhausts itself (while doing big number AOE), and the big damage numbers buff Thrash a lot, then use draw engines to replay Thrash
- Silent: shivs, just shivs. Fan of Knives is quite funny
- Defect: "Voltaic+", one card combo that does... everything, and has crazy scaling. I think this card has to be nerfed though, since it is way too strong; maybe instead make it cost 2 & exhaust or something
- Necrobinder: "Souls" deck, draw a gazillion cards & finish off with "Death March" or "Soul Storm". This is actually reminiscent of the Jockey booster pack from the Packmaster mod in StS1, which is one of my favorite modded contents in StS1
- Regent: "Decisions, Decisions" + "Royal Gamble" is insane, then hopefully having 27 star energy would be enough to finish off the encounter
Voltaic is a difficult card to balance, on low ascension it's just a one card damage solve for the entire game, but on higher ascensions it's borderline unpickable. Having a 3 energy card that basically does nothing the first 2 times it's drawn will get you chipped down by hallway fights a lot of the times.
Nice job on the A10 clear if you've not spent tons of time on the first game that is quite fast. Killing bosses in intangible is always a good time.
Yeah Necro and silent are kinda broken still, in the first few weeks of the game they all were quite broken tbh.
Sly discard is a lot of fun on silent, makes her so strong both via shiv and poison, somehow only doing damage on draw is a completely resonable win con in some runs.
I love that they put status card angle on defect and made 0 cost defect so viable, focus is still easy to come by if you want it, just give up on having defrag so often.
clad having vulnerable as a core mechanic feels quite good, also self damage getting phone more kit is nice, but yeah no heal apart from burning blood and the new rare in beta makes that whole path not quite so broken.
necro is fun and kinda broken if you can get mana and draw econ going you can mostly just chill behind osty and run away with it, also lethality stacking plus debilitate is fun and powerful
regent also is fun but I still struggle with consistency with him, stars seem almost necessary but ive not yet internalised that part, only thing I really know is to pick cosmic indifference if there isn't anything significant offered.
Have you tried coop yet ? IMO it might be the best mod of sts1 that ended up in this one. If you want to try and have no one else to play with hit me up.
Thanks! Just for the record I have close to 1000 hrs on the first game lol, not to mention a good number of YouTube streams that I watched, No way I can clear StS2 this quickly without some pretty extensive experience
Yeah... sly is cracked. The two sly cards from StS1 were already so broken that I often snap pick them in the first game. With the new Master Planner card and the whole slew of sly support it is wayyy too insane. Even if they nerfed Prepared+, Hidden Daggers can still pop off
I had one run with a vulnerability deck on Ironclad; still haven't fully figured out how to build around it, but it does seem like a pretty reliable draw engine if done right. Also he has the silly ancestral card that is only 1 mana for 20 damage + 5 stacks of vuln 😂
Necrobinder... a bit embarrassing, but she is actually my weakest character now, since I haven't quite figured out how to play her outside of the Souls archetype. Hopefully I get the hang of it soon
Regent seems to rely much more heavily on leaning into certain archetypes...? I haven't gotten the full hang of it yet, but star gain/loss + support power is very strong, big sword go vroom is strong but requires specific combo pieces... not sure of the colorless archetype but maybe I just have to experiment more
I... prefer to play single player games due to reasons, but yeah I should give co-op at least a try. I'll keep it in mind, thanks!
I mean yeah sts is by far my favourite and most played game at well over 2k hours in sts1 and already past 200 in sts2 which is barely out. So my perspective on playtime and ascension clears might be a tad warped.
I just remembered my first a20 heart to have taken like 400h so sts2 a10 felt kind of like a joke in comparison. But granted act 4 made sts1 a20 quite a bit more difficult and doesn't exist yet for this one.
Classy finish with the exact knife trap count and congratulations on beating it!
It's so weird that such a great game gets grifted by whiny chinese and gamergate wankers.
Feel free to post on https://piefed.social/c/slaythespire@lemmy.ca, I'm sure people there would enjoy it!
My understanding of the Chinese review bombing situation is that they have no way to report issues in Chinese so they resort to doing it in reviews instead of the intended channels.
Yeah that's a big miss on megacrits end.
I actually went to r/slaythespire after playing a while for tricks & tips, so I kind of figured out what went wrong
I seem to have a bit of this in me as well as I grew up in China, but Chinese players seem to have a penchant for "exploiting" the game so to speak... as in, finding infinite or broken combos. Seems like a lot of Chinese-made mods for StS1 tend to focus on super high-difficulty content too. And allegedly StS2 on launch had a couple of very easy infinites, but that's the point of making it early access first... so you can go and balance it. Guess some folks didn't take if very nicely lol
Also I did not know this before, but apparently StS is wildly popular in China for whatever reason
Just by removing watcher and dropkick they killed the most common infinites.
I hope they give ironclad more support for exhaust. Taking feel no pain was free on sts1 because like a third of his card interacts with it but here it's a gamble.
