The UK is so hilariously like everything Orwell tried to bitch about that it’s funnier and funnier that he was a shitty little snitch on those further left. I hope there is an afterlife just because that means he’s looking on all of this and gets to feel his own spiritual hell

1984 was literally based on his time working as a British propagandist (that's why Smith is in the "Ministry of Truth"), so it makes sense.

Edit: I know you probably know this, just mentioning it for the benefit of others

Just have nothing but loathing for the guy, really the worst kind of “leftist”. Imagine your literary legacy as a “leftist” being used as his has.

But anyways for those who haven’t seen it yet heres the review of 1984 by Issac Asimov: http://www.newworker.org/ncptrory/1984.htm

When you realise that Winston is just him I find its easier to just kinda pity him for being so spineless. Like damn bro, apparently public schools are spine removal factories.

Dunno what explains Herr Stermer tho, he went to a normal school right? How'd he lose his spine?

I think you have to have one first to lose it.

The Redsails link collection on 1984 and it's surrounding discourse is a good read. That's where I found that Asimov one in the first place.

winston smith was a self-insert he absolutely would not be surprised at all by this
