Did Platner just want to kill brown people? That man went for several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, he was literally a prison guard at Abu Ghraib, he joined the most infamous mercenary outfit of that period of imperialist genocide in the Middle East, i'd be really surprised if he hasn't murdered people himself.

To be fair (and, to be further fair, being fair really isn't warranted, for him), he did say he liked small wars; I feel like the sequel to the Great War doesn't qualify as a small war, by any measure.
That said, not like that detail explains away the Totenkopf, by any means.

I honestly thought the whole thing about him wanting to kill brown people was an exaggeration but no, the more I read about him, I’m more convinced he actually enjoyed murdering Iraqi and Afghan civilians. He allegedly said he’d r*pe someone if they broke into their house, just to establish a sense of dominance. This dude is fucking depraved, even amongst libs.
