3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

That is interesting, because Bic was founded in and is headquarted in France. I wonder why they are putting America 250 on everything.

In any event, they are the best lighters. They light consistently no matter how long they sit. Can't let a Zippo sit more than a couple days without having to maintain it before lighting.

Haven't you noticed just about every immigrant-run businesses can be identified by the profusion of American flags on displa'?

I wonder why they are putting America 250 on everything.

Because 💰

A big part of the market is "freedom loving rednecks" that won't let the man take away their smokes so yeehaw let's make these lighters more american.

Same reason Oreilly Auto Parts is now selling "limited edition" cans of fucking brake cleaner solvent with "Americas 250th anniversary" labels. The patriotic glaze market is YUUUGE.

Bic is the epitome of cheap products that just fucking work. At least the pens and lighters. They work every time no matter how long it's been. They are cheap, dependable, and unmatched in design. They're also iconic and quintessential products recognized and revered worldwide. GOAT.

Y’all are using different bic products than me…

"usa#1"

made in france

fitting. if it weren't for france, the 4th might not mean a damn thing.

I assume most companies are cashing in on the semiquincentennial

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 2 points 16 hours ago

trying to avoid it here but it's a little difficult.

on the plus side, a government office nearby covered their lawns with pride displays with not one shred of red, white and blue anywhere. love it. i think of all the local yokels that must be fuming over it every time i go by.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Reading the word semiquincentennial just irks me for some reason. Like why use a word for the half of five centuries instead of just the number 250?

Indeed they are the best lighters, no doubt about that. I've only ever gotten one defective new Bic in my entire life, and that was defective because the flint was stuck and it wouldn't spark.

My main issue with bic lighters is the fact that you can't easily change the flint like you can with a clipper, or even a swan, lighter. The rectangle shape is also less sturdy than the circular lighters, and more likely to break if you use them to open beer bottles.
