Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Or maybe I was talking about how the material fed into the AI was largely pirated content that they did not pay for. Content, that if you are a human, you'd legally have to pay to read. And they got away with pirating jusssst fine for commerical use.
I don't need to get into flimsy but still correct shit about how there's a substantial difference between only extracting from other's content compared to writing with your own experiences combined, because they committed crimes to obtain the data that they used to create AI.
More however, you pretend that personal hardware somehow doesn't have an environmental impact? That's also laughable.
My call of bullshit was correct, so I'm going to laugh at you complaining about it
Oh, right, you know everything that went into training every model and can pinpoint what was illegally obtained and what was not. I forgot. It must be nice having such knowledge, and makes winning arguments really easy since you can prove it on demand.
Sorry, are you writing your post on a piece of recycled paper, with renewable-sourced ink, and then walking it to your ISP where they inject the message via manual modulation of the signal without any frivolous use of electricity? Very impressive. I wish we all had that luxury. My solar array just doesn't compare. I'm so wasteful.
Yes, yes, you and your made up rules with no legal standing, with a complete lack of hypocrisy are very impressive. Laugh at the pigeon-delivered missive in your hands until the light from the renewable candles burns out. You've earned it with your moral superiority and impressive ability to unilaterally decide what is and isn't legal. I'm sure blind, deaf people will write stories about you some day since they're the only ones who can without infringing on the rights of content they've seen or heard.
A round of applause for Fred, the Fish Lord, please! Truly, we should all strive to be as carbon neutral, universally omniscient and legislatively powerful as him.
