what’s the con?
Potential monetary cost, "wasting" medical resources needed by others, possibly finding something incidental but benign leading to unnecessary further testing/surgery/etc. There are reasons why these generally aren't done willy nilly.
medical cost for an mri? are you american?
It hurts me so much that this is a reaction... In the US we literally get denied access to MRIs... I had a pain in my foot and the podiatrist said we'd need an MRI as nothing else would give him any useful info and the scumbag insurance company just says no it's not needed get an ultrasound... So I paid for a useless ultrasound that didn't show anything useful... So the Insurance company that I indirectly give $1,200/month to (lost potential compensation as the boss "pays") never paid a dime...
Everything about the US is a fucking scam to funnel money to rich people.
The way I always calculate doing any medical thing is a asking myself questions. My health is weird and complicated, and often it's nothing and I just go home, but sometimes it's something and I'm glad I went.
Don't answer these if you don't want to, just write it in a notebook.
Just look at your answers the next day and ask yourself if someone else told you this, what would you recommend to them? Forget the cost or "wasting resources"; actually look at what you wrote as if it's worth serious consideration. You deserve care.
Well essentially I had a bit of an odd biopsy result and one of the possibilities can be a strange hormone effect. I wanted a second opinion on the biopsy to make sure it was benign. I also recently had some blood hormone testing which doesn't seem to find anything too odd outside of the possibly of way earlier menopause than normal. The second opinion was benign which made me happy. But then the doctor suggested an MRI to have a better look at my adrenal glands (which are also producers of hormones) and ovaries. I think because she noticed that I have excess hair on my face and body. This can also be due to a hormonal effect, but this particular hormone wasn't tested and would not have effected the biopsy.
