Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?

Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.

Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

nothing gives me more disappointment than seeing a poc believe the racist propaganda about them, "of course we get our student visa revoked so much! we commit crimes there", how can victims feel guilt towards their victmizers?
Even funnier that its hella prevalent in places where machismo is king be it military, sports especially football etc. Shit like that enforces hierarchy so yeah but all that talk and posturing and you looking like a cuck waiting to clean out massas fillings wid your tongue
Not gonna defend it but will add that among immigrants there is a lot of mixed feelings just depending on what part of let's say Mexico your from. According from my mom people from everywhere but Guerrero are stingy backstabbers. The lumping of immigrants together by whites does something on them old histories and when you start including different countries together only confuses the issue more. Still isn't helped with how right wing Spanish speaking news networks are. That attitude also feels very pick me tbh
Wmill, I have a question. Does this, lack of a better term, orientalist or regional-chauvinist view apply also to migrants and refugees south of Mexico, for Mexicans? Also, I heard, whether chauvinistically, as a 'joke' or not, I heard Peru's kind of a black sheep in Latin America.
Think it deeps from what I hear from family they got more mixed feelings about people from Mexico since they from Mexico other countries they will spout what they heard but are also easier to sway. They tend to have a favorable outlook to white people here but mostly because of how badly other people of color treat them here no doubt reinforcing this kinda outlook. The self hating immigrant or poc rarely just stick to hating themselves.
Yes. They fucking hate Guatemalans and never shut up about it. They’re all “We’re indigenous. Aztec pride!” And then in the next breath go “lol ugly ass Guatemalans with their indigenous features.”
And you know what? We do it too with Salvi’s and Hondurans.
You know what drives me insane instead of blaming their oppressor they blame themselves normalise white hatred unironically
