Do people who talk this kind of shit about css really not understand they're just admitting they're not good at css?
Same with people who complain endlessly about JS/TS letting you add a string to an object. I work with this shit daily, these are literally the least of my problems.
Totally agree.
If you need to be good at a layout language to center something, then maybe the layout language sucks.
You literally just have to give it a width and add
margin: 0 auto;I think it’s implied they’re talking about centering both horizontally and vertically. And probably with unknown height.
Still easy these days , though.
Or use Flexbox
But your solution works as well for simple cases
I generally avoid flex for simple stuff (i like weird browsers), but for more complex layouts it should certainly be used.
What it says is zero knowledge on the part of the whiner.
I'm not good at programming Brainfuck, either.
You probably haven't put any effort into learning either language. I find that people who whine about css to normally be backend programmers who are really terrible at design and want a scapegoat to blame.
You have a real fuckin' hard-on for CSS, don't ya?
I have side eye for those with hate boners for it
You think my joke was a "hate boner"? You need to smoke grass or touch weed or something.
I think you are misunderstanding a lot here
Nope. I have you pegged.
I don't know why you replied to me in the first place (besides being a css whiner) and it just keeps getting more baffling the more you keep replying. You seem to be incredibly bored. I'd suggest a better hobby
Sorry, I already said "touch grass". You can't come back with a comment like that. It's much too late.
I sometimes enjoy pestering people who make asses of themselves in comment threads. You definitely qualify with how many comments you've made in this thread attacking people for having the audacity to say they don't like CSS. I was serious that I think you should take a break from arguing on the internet. For your own good. (And ours.)
You took my lighthearted joke about an intentionally awkward language and threw it in my face, saying that I must be bad at design, etc.
"If you dont like CSS, you're just bad."
I don't know why anyone would ever choose to be a programming language apologist. If people have criticisms of a language, good, they're probably valid. You don't need to apologize for the language and brush their criticisms under the rug. It just makes you look like a jerk.
If it were designed properly you wouldn't need to be good at it, it would be trivial and obvious to do the only thing anyone ever needs to do to their content within an area of the page
Good news: centering a div is insanely easy to do and has been for like 15 years.
You probably didn't expect that comment to make me feel so old.
Haha, sorry bout that. If it makes you feel any better, I felt pretty old about writing it too!
The last time I did any html/css work was about 15 years ago. Now I'm curious what's changed.
flex box, grid layout, and a million other things
